Program
Brainerd Sertoma ClubIt is hard to fault our two speakers of the day for taking up so much of our time at today's meeting. Both of these men obviously love their jobs and truly believe in the importance of Sertoma's involvement. It was Jeff Olson's turn to get up in front of the group and encourage us to continue our efforts to support Confidence Learning Center. Both Jeff and Bob Slaybaugh, Camp Director, had the same message for us. Camp is wonderful place to work, it provides a unique and unforgettable experience in the outdoors for people with developmental disabilities, and it is an integral part of our community. As Sertoma members we can be proud of our involvement in the process that allows Camp to Serve 12,000 camper days a year on a budget that is not much different than it was in 1986. Jeff took the opportunity to thank Roy Miller and the Brainerd Dispatch for the wonderful article in last week's paper. Confidence opens its doors free of charge to schools in May and last week a 1,500 campers took advantage of this program. This is their way of thanking the community for its support, meeting future volunteers, and getting some wonderful word of mouth advertising. It would be great to have a video of the excited second graders who visited last week as they arrived home to Brainerd Minnesota Sertom Clubtell mom and dad or grandma and grandpa about holding a live snake in the nature center which is one of the finest in the state. The following Sertomans have been working hard on this year's Sertoma Mariucci Fiesta including Captain Charlie Bartels shown holding a powwow after the meeting with Jeff Olson and Ray Ricci from the Sales and Marketing team at Camp, Milo Johnson, Scott Fisher, Reed Campbell and Joyce Anderson. There are still many things you can do to help. Say yes when Jim Potvin calls and asks you to volunteer either Thursday or Friday afternoon (July 12-13), donate some item of value from your business or your home for the silent auction or live auction, or sign up to golf or fish in the tournament. See you there!

Greeter Schedule
Remember: Greeters (Be sure to take care of your duties that include meeting people at the door and getting the ticket money counted and divided with half going to Tami to give away and half to Diane for the social committee's budget). As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10 minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate. The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half goes to the Club Treasurer (Diane Rook Johnson) and half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets. Be there by 11:45 and call somebody if you can't. Call Patty Hartman.

Notes
Dear Brainerd Noon Sertoma Club, Thank you so much for inviting myself and my mother to your celebration. What a blast! The honor of receiving the award is greatly appreciated. Hard work does pay off after all. The Swinging Sertomans were great! I have never had such great entertainment. I plan to continue serving my community in any way possible. Thank you so much for everything. The Serteen groups thanks you too. God bless. Samantha Sullivan, Serteen President.
Instead of doing Rumors this week, let's do Camp Confidence facts
  • Jeff Olson met Bob Ehrich and Charlie Bartels back in 1978 when he made a fleeting visit to camp and got caught up in the Mariucci Fiesta
  • Originally the Fiesta was John Mariucci's idea because it would get people who were participating in the golf tournament to come to camp.
  • This fund raiser typically nets around $70,000 for camp programs, about $14,000 of which comes from the Sertoma Mariucci Fiesta.
  • Confidence Learning Center unlike other programs such as Camp Courage has no county contracts and as Jeff says, We rely on great partnerships with groups such as the Jaycees and Sertomans as well as the generosity of so many individuals in the community.
  • Camp gives out awards each year--the club has received the Volunteer of the Year Award but Charles Bartels, Paul Gropper, Pam Sachs, and Karen Owen have also received the award.
  • Camp serves people as young as 1 month old and as old as 98
  • Fas winners this week will be Jim Hanson or Jinny Haugen if they call Pam.
  • Program is Camp Confidence, Confidence Learning Center is the location
  • Bob came to camp 14 years ago as a volunteer and hasn't left except to finish his education.
  • When asked why he stayed all these years, his answer was, The bottom line is the campers, they have kept me at Camp all these years and many of them have become very close friends.
  • All Sertomans need to come to Camp. If you can't make the Fiesta, call any time and make arrangements to come out and spend a few hours with program staff learning what the Camp is all about.
  • Just look at this enthusiastic bunch of people who will be working with campers this year, the spirit of Camp Confidence is its staff.

The FAS Program was designed to encourage people to read the newsletter. Even those who attend the meeting can benefit from reviewing the announcements etc. If you find the letters FAS followed by your name, you must call the number provided and just leave a message that you called and attend the next meeting to collect your money. Simple--however 90% of the people never respond.
Photos Photos Everywhere New photos go up almost every week on our new MSN Community homepage. This community is for the club, easy to join and gives you the opportunity to add edit or delete any photos that are posted as well as leave messages for fellow Sertomans. It is a good way to thank someone for doing a good job or give them some positive feedback for a big event in their life. If you wish to view the current photographs or check out the new online directory go to:  http://communities.msn.com/BrainerdNoonSertoma/_whatsnew.msnw
