Today's question and answer session was very helpful to anyone in the Sertoma audience who has been struggling with
lawn, tree, and plant problems this year. John Landsburg of Landsburg Landscaping discussed several areas of concern including insect infestations and weather problems. His big thing about lawns was proper
"nutrition"-a healthy lawn can fight off the bugs and maintain its greenery. John highly recommended using liquid sprays as opposed to dry products for weed control. He told everyone to prune their flowering shrubs just after they have finished blooming for best results. One should not fertilize after August 15th in this area because the resultant new growth is not hardy enough to withstand the winters. Many members of the audience had specific questions that ranged from
"Are trees damaged by storms insured?" to the inevitable from Mike Howard,
"How can I keep my lawn green but not growing?" Astro turf was the number one recommendation all around. Interestingly enough the question of insurance brought something to John's mind. Landsburg's pays most of their insurance claims to employees who have contracted poison ivy on the job. A good effective broadleaf weed killer can be used almost anywhere
today-John assured us of their safety.

Mike Howard and Camp Sertoma Club are looking for volunteers to work at Valley Fair. This could turn into a yearly event and could raise a lot of money for the Camp Sertoma operating fund. Right now they are
looking for 16-20 club members to work from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The jobs will be assigned when you get there and could include anything from selling
tickets to picking up garbage. The sheet will be going around the meetings. This could be a chance for a family outing with you working and the kids
paying and playing.

Sertoman of the Day
|
|
|

As a former speech judge, I would have to give today's Sertoman of the Day A+ honors in the creativity category. Informationally, however we did have to read between the lines to find out anything about Brian Lehmen. He works for a computer company (deduced from the fact that his frisbees were in reality mouse pads). He has several children one of whom is very creative (his most embarrassing moment was an essay by his son Nathan on why he didn't like Al Gore). Two of his boys keep him involved in baseball since he lives in Nisswa and coaches three nights a week. He joined Sertoma 4 months ago sponsored by Paul Gropper. FAS 829-7761 Terry Hermanson The rest of the time Brian talked about plants,
world peace, air fueled automobiles, frisbee contests and showed some
wonderful pictures of his? relatives. I think he was serious when his
personal history was presented. His grandparents came from Germany. Thank
you for a highly entertaining Sertoman of the Day presentation Brian.
