Dave Falkey, Assistant Director Crow Wing County Emergency ServicesDave Falkey, Assistant Director Crow Wing County Emergency Services, was our speaker today. In the aftermath of the tornado that struck Brainerd following a 21/2 mile path, his information was timely and important. He informed us that anyone with tornado damage needs to call (800) 462 9029 to register for individual assistance. The President may declare our area a disaster area and the funds that come in will only be earmarked for public utilities, roads, etc. unless enough people have sustained enough damage to qualify for individual assistance. People calling the number will be told that they are not eligible but their names will be put in a holding file in case funding does arrive. The Red Cross has been very active in helping people clean up and anyone wanting to volunteer should certainly get in touch with them. One interesting thing Dave noted was the lack of sirens. This was due to the fact that the power outage occurred just when the sirens were about to sound the alarm. He talked about the need for the NOAH radio system and the fact that it was supposed to be installed for this season. Major stumbling blocks include people who do not want the towers in their area. He also told us about the function of local spotters in tornado warnings.

Some of the hardest working people besides Milo, Charlie and Paul are the guys who cook the fish. Thanks again for a great job guys in spite of the weather. Mariucci Reports Charlie Bartels and Jeff Olson presented info from last week's events. This was the first time ever for serving an indoor meal and about 500 people actually ate. Charlie had great things to say about the St. Johnıs Youth group who spent several hours running up and down the stairs with food and going around collecting garbage and serving seconds. Jeff was so impressed with the fact that the liquor sales and the auction receipts were not down from last year. Beverage sales made $2111 and the Silent Auction organized by Jenny Haugen Segler made $11,400. Jeff also stressed what a recruiting effort the Fiesta is for Sertoma.
