Relay
For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to bring
together those who have been touched by cancer in the Brainerd
community. At the event, survivorship is celebrated and money is
raised to help the American Cancer Society in its mission to
save lives, help those who have been touched by cancer, and
empower individuals to fight back. During the event, teams of
people gather the high school track on Friday July 27th to walk
from 7 p.m. To 5 a.m. But, Relay is much more than a walk around
a track. It is a time to remember those lost to cancer and
celebrate those who have survived. It is a night for people who
have shared the same experience to comfort and console one
another.
Pam Bye and Karen Owen were our speakers today. Pam
represented all those Sertoma members who have survived a bout
with cancer. Sertoma has another close connection to this year's
relay in Peter Eigner. Peter is the children's honorary chair
and the adult honorary chair this year is Dick Lysio. The
picture of Peter playing baseball is a recent one taking by his
grandmother and posted on his site. Both of Peter's parents have
been members of Sertoma and Erika continues to participate when
she can. Pam took a moment to share the most emotional moment
she had on her first "walk". The survivors begin the walk at the
head of the teams. Everyone else who is participating lines up
along both sides of the track to encourage the survivors. Pam
remarked, "It is a very moving moment that makes you want to
fight that much harder." Karen continued, "You see tears of joy
and happiness, you develop camaraderie, and you don't even think
of all the hard work it took to get there." Karen has not had
any personal experience with this disease, but she feels that it
touches so many lives and has participated as a member of the
committee for four years. Probably one of the most memorable
events takes place at 10 p.m. when the luminaries that have been
purchased to honor survivors and to remember those who have lost
the battle are lit.
Both Karen and Pam encourage everyone to come out for some of
the events including games for kids, the silent auction, and the
survivor tent. The all night walk illustrates the battle with
cancer, first the darkness, then the beginning of treatment
(lighting the luminaries), and finally the walk into the light.

happens when two shutterbugs get together and take photos--a
tremendous number of new pictures up on the Webshots Camp

Tom Krekow added his considerable talents to the mix to
produce some very professional picture of the Fiesta as well
as the Golf and Fishing. Camp Confidence and Sertoma thank
him for his efforts. Pam just bumbled along and took her
usual stuff!! Tom created an excellent collage for all three
Classic events. Click here for the Mariucci photo collage. |

| Greeter
Schedule |
| Remember:
As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.
Be there by 11:45 and call somebody to substitute for you if you
can't be there. |

Mary and Pam to pay.
-
Dale Bolt already wants Bill back when the whole Dog Pound got
fined for not helping out with the greeters. The Campbell
brothers were AWOL today.
-
