Buford
Johnson, husband of Diane Rook Johnson, joined us for lunch today
and brought along the two most important members of Team
Minnesota. Peter Hutchinson and Maureen Reed are leading a group
of independent party candidates who are running for election this
fall. Peter spoke first as candidate for governor. His speech was
based on his theme, "When you are riding a dead horse, the best
strategy is to dismount." His four major focuses of change are
education, healthcare, roads, and water issues. His background
includes Commissioner of Finance and Superintendent of the
Minneapolis Public Schools. He stated for the record that his team
does not consist of professional politicians. Instead it is made
up of people with experience as public servants. Maureen brings a
healthcare background into the mix since she is a physician. She
stated, "Complex health care doesn't have to be that way," and
went on to explain the changes necessary to make the health system
work in Minnesota. One interesting fact that she presented was the
importance of decreasing the cost of health insurance through
eliminating the 30% waste. She was very vehement about all
Minnesotans being able access no frills basic health care. A
question and answer period followed. |

As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.
