Program
Mick JohnsonMick Johnson from Gander Mountain came to speak today. Gander Mountain started as a catalog company and their motto is "We Live Outdoors." Anyone who has ever been in one of their stores realizes that they try to sell everything that relates to outdoor activities. Gander Mountain is a leading specialty retailer that serves the needs of outdoor lifestyle enthusiasts, with a particular focus on hunting, fishing, camping and boating.

In the 60's they joined up with the Holiday Stores and then joined up with Burger Brothers. At the beginning of June 2006, the Company had 100 Gander Mountain outdoor lifestyle stores in 18 states - Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin. The first store was located in Wisconsin. Ninety per cent of the employees in the Brainerd/Baxter store are from the Brainerd area. They currently employ 47 people.

The Gander Lodge is a meeting room located in the back of the store that is available for non-profit agencies. Mick has an appreciation for how hard members of service organizations work and hopes that Gander Mountain can support Sertoma in the future. Gander Mountain has been a big supporter of the Camp Confidence Classic for many years and has already demonstrated a willingness to become involved in community activities.

Many thanks to Sandra Bonde for not only taking notes but emailing them promptly to Pam so she could get the newsletter off on time.
