Program
Marnita Van Hoecke - Director of the Pine Grove Zoo in Little Falls, Minnesota. The big scary tiger lady was here to speak to the club about the Pine Grove Zoo in Little Falls. Sertomans learned that this is the second oldest zoo in Minnesota and is the last stand of virgin white pine trees in the state. The land for the zoo was donated by three families who wished to preserve the trees.

Marnita Van Hoecke is the zoo director and the only full time employee at the zoo. She remarked, "Everything down at the zoo has changed dramatically; if you have been there before you will not recognize it." The zoo's goal is to get AZA accredited and all of the animals have been moved from cages to "environments". In fact the new bear exhibit cost 1/2 million dollars and will house only two bears but it is very exciting.

The zoo is home to a variety of exotic, native and domestic animals which include: cougars, tigers, timber wolves, pronghorn, bison, a petting stable and much more. The big scary tiger is joined by a big scary snake and both of them have their quirks. One does not get too close to the cage when the tiger is ready to urinate because he enjoys drenching people. Cost of admission is $2 per person. and it is open to the public from May 1 to September 30th. Check out the details at www.pinegrovezoo.com.

Thanks Mark Sandelin for taking notes!
