Program
We didn't actually have a regular program today. It was nice to have a chance to visit and have fun. Part of the fun was the presentation by the Rookie Party Choir. All of them were the volunteers who were brave enough to pick up their leaves (see Sandra Bonde's hand) which all had lines from songs on them and head up to the front of the room. We didn't have one hundred per cent participation in the "sing your lines" part but everyone had a very good time . Kathy Christensen and Mary Marana had whole verses and probably should get the music awards for the day because they sang very well. This gives me an opportunity to talk about what being a Rookie is all about. Rookies bring new ideas into the club. They expand our horizons and keep us from getting stale and burnt out in our Service to Mankind. It is a group that bonds as they get together and plan a fun social activity for the whole club. Many rookies get so involved in club activities that they end up in officer positions the next year. They achieve their gem award and continue to be active members of the club for many years. We need to encourage all of the rookies, even the quiet ones, to continue to be a part of our club. Growth and change are what keep our Sertoma Club active and the largest club in the world. It does help that one of our goals is epitomized by the rookies and their party planning-we do live up to our aim to have fun while serving mankind and making new friends. All of us have fond memories of the good times we have had as Sertomans. We are all looking forward to September to see what this year's crop of fun-loving rookies has planned for their party. So far, it has been very entertaining.

Announcements
July 25 - Beth Burnard is collecting money for the Relay for Life on July 25th. She will not be here next week, but you can still sign up on the 23rd.
July 26 - Saturday, is the first annual Motorcycle Rally for Camp Confidence and Muscular Dystrophy. Cyclists are registering at BIR from 10:00 a.m. to noon, taking off on a fifty mile tour of the lakes area, and returning to a few laps around the BIR track followed by a pig roast at the Old Waterfall. Cost is $25 for single rider and $30 for double.
July 28 - The Gossamer Ceiling Crew is in need of some takedown artists on Monday starting at 10 a.m. With 8 people it will take about 15 minutes. Call Joe Schulte at 829-4272 to sign up for Monday. Ruttger's is talking about using the gossamer ceiling for its conventions so this crew will need as much help as it can get.
July 29 - Pirates Cove Adventure Family Golf social has been changed to a new date due to conflict with Mid Minnesota Builders. Bring the kids and enjoy a picnic and round of golf on Tuesday, July 29th. Time is 6:30 with a charge of $5.50 for adults and $5 for kids under twelve.
Aug 1-3 Fishing has No Boundaries Inaugural Event--Confidence Learning Center.
Aug 4-9 United Way Week of Caring The United Way is painting 5 local houses as part of their United Way Week of Caring. Laura Bielke spoke briefly to the group (Laura's new job is with the United Way. Cheryal Hills also has a new job a the Lakes Country Journal). Since over 500 volunteers will be needed for this job, Roy Miller was put in charge of organizing a Sertoma Team to become involved in the painting project.
Aug 8 - The Club will continue to support the Camp Sertoma Golf Tournament. We will have our very own team competing. Anyone who is willing to commit a whole day to golfing and the festivities that follow can give Rory Coit a business card by Aug 1st to be eligible for the drawing for the team.
Northern Lakes Sertoma is again selling football booklets with Viking Football Boards. The cost is $25 and proceeds go to help the club with their Service to Mankind projects. Each game pays $25 at the half and $50 at the final with chances to win in the Super Bowl also. Last year 17 Brainerd Noon Sertomans won.
Lars will not be at the Wheel this Friday. However, he is the MC at the festivities at Little Moran after the Camp Sertoma Golf. Dave Burggraff still has plenty of spots available so sign your team up now. Don't forget to get your business card into Rory by this week to be eligible for the Noon Sertoma sponsored team. If Rick Fargo or Kristine Welle read this and call in before Tuesday of next week, the will win their sawbuck. A Clay Shoot has been added on Saturday with an entry fee that will also help out Camp Sertoma. Lodging and camping are available at Little Moran (you need to make reservations and pay) with a possible excursion to the famous Checkers Bar in Hewitt on the agenda for Saturday night. Plan on attending and having a very good time while supporting the 80+ campers that are now attending Camp Sertoma.
FAS: Neither Mark Engstrand or Jim Grant called in for their FAS winnings.

Greeter Schedule
Remember: Greeters (Be sure to take care of your duties that include meeting people at the door and getting the ticket money counted and divided with half going to Tami to give away and half to Diane for the social committee's budget). As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10 minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate. The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half goes to the Club Treasurer (Diane Rook Johnson) and half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets. Be there by 11:45 and call somebody if you can't. Call Patty Hartman.
July 30 Brent Rivers, Kari Robinson, Steve Rose
Aug 6 Valerie Fournier, Lori Rubin, Deb Ryan
Aug 13 Coleen Reynolds, Pam Sachs, Joe Schulte
Sertoman of the Day
Notes
Our prayers go out to Rick and Veronica Besmehn. Veronica's mother just celebrated her 80th birthday with her family and died the next day.
Greg Straka is a new grandpa--congrats Greg.
Rumor Corner:
  • Tammy had all the rookies stand up when they introduced themselves today which was an excellent way for us to get to know them. Pooch however, refused to stand up even though he is technically a "rookie".
  • Thanks Dennis Renowski, Loann Reponen, and Janelle Reilly for actually having all three greeters at the door. It really wasn't fair of Tammy to pick on them, especially Dennis because they forgot to deliver the ticket money.
  • Mike Boen was into all kinds of mischief today. He tried to cash in a ticket that wasn't a winner and he somehow mysteriously ended up with "radio" accompaniment to his Vikings announcement.
  • The lucky winners of Godfather' Pizza Balls (some new golf balls donated by Julia) were Brian Kirkpatrick, Edie Hindman. Joe Schulte and Jeff Olson but he left and will have to fight Tami Webb for possession. By the way, there is a new study out which shows that eating pizza once a week helps prevent cancer.
  • Dave Clausen is stalking BAM girls.
  • Pete Odell is leaving Wells Fargo and moving to rival Deerwood Bank soon.
  • Valerie Fournier is a pen kleptomaniac, either that or she was framed by Paul Gropper and Pooch.
  • Lowell Carlson turned into a Scott Fisher clone--at least according to his badge.

The FAS Program was designed to encourage people to read the newsletter. Even those who attend the meeting can benefit from reviewing the announcements etc. If you find the letters FAS followed by your name, you must call the number provided and just leave a message that you called and attend the next meeting to collect your money. Simple--however 90% of the people never respond.
Photos Photos Everywhere New photos go up almost every week on our new MSN Community homepage. This community is for the club, easy to join and gives you the opportunity to add edit or delete any photos that are posted as well as leave messages for fellow Sertomans. It is a good way to thank someone for doing a good job or give them some positive feedback for a big event in their life. If you wish to view the current photographs or check out the new online directory go to:  http://communities.msn.com/BrainerdNoonSertoma/_whatsnew.msnw
