Father
Glen Moe from the Haiti Mission was our honored guest speaker
today. His principal concern was to explain about the main goal
for the mission, to build a high school for the people in the
remote area they serve. Father Glen stated, "A school system is
our vision and some of us will do anything to accomplish it". He
further explained the vision as the sanctification of human
families. The supporters of the cause have donated $400,000,
enough to build a wing of the new school. It has not been
started, however, due to the extreme instability of the
government in the area right now. Killing and stealing are big
obstacles to purchasing materials in Port Au Prince and
transporting them to the village. Tom Rosenberger introduced
Father Glen and explained that they have 400 pairs of shoes
ready to go at the present time. Many of us have contributed to
the Shoes for Haiti Fund and both Tom and Father Glen expressed
their sincere appreciation for all of our support. Father also
invited us to the annual big fund raiser which is held in Cajun
Country. Last year their golf tournament raised $158,.000 thanks
to support from all over the country. Ruttgers Lodge, for
instance, always donates a vacation package that sells extremely
well. If you would like to read more about the Haiti Mission
pick up a copy of the Nov/Dec issue of Lake Country Journal
which will feature a 32 page spread on the project. If either
Mike Boen or Lori Ukkelberg reads this and responds to Pam
before Tuesday of next week, they can attend the meeting to
collect their sawbuck. A special thanks to Father for his moving
speech and his eloquent invocation. See Tom if you are
interested in golfing with Father Glen or contributing to the
fund raiser auction. |

Find a Sawbuck Corner: Call 829-7761
The FAS Program was designed to encourage people to read the newsletter. Even those who attend the meeting can benefit from reviewing the announcements etc. If you find the letters FAS followed by your name, you must call the number provided and just leave a message that you called and attend the next meeting to collect your money. Simple--however 90% of the people never respond.
