Program
Linda N. Gettelman - LG ConsultingLinda N. Gettelman of LG Consulting was our guest speaker today. Linda is a human resources consultant who is a graduate of the Chamber of Commerce's Project Lead 2000 and wanted to encourage all of the Sertomans to consider enrolling in this intensive 8 month course the next time it is offered. She would also like us to support their fund-raising golf event next summer for HOPE.  Today's speaker was presenting information on the Lutheran Social Service's Program entitled HOPE. Linda Gettelman is a human resources consultant and works with Housing Options for Everyone, a program developed with the primary goal of preventing homelessness. This is accomplished by Preventing mortgage foreclosure and rental eviction due to inability to pay, stabilizing families in their housing, and connecting people to needed resources.

She encouraged us to partner with HOPE either as an organization or a individual. Things that can be done include donating and assembling "care kits" of household cleaning supplies for people who are just moving into a new home or apartment. Other donations could include things like blankets or quilts, Christmas presents, and even real estate or homes to be used for transitional housing. Anyone interested can call 218-829-5000 or toll free 1-800-829-5902.

Sertoman of the Day

Kathy Bittner LeeKathy Bittner Lee did double duty at the podium today as the person who introduced the speaker and as Sertoman of the Day. Kathy presently works for the Brainerd Daily Dispatch and before that worked in the Chamber of Commerce. She is a native to the area who says she had to travel considerably to places like Colorado and Detroit to find out that everything she wanted was right here in Brainerd. She lives with her husband Arik and her two dogs south of Crosslake and they have recently acquired a fixer-up cabin in the Longville area. A certain unnamed heckler in the audience (first name Reed) gave Kathy a very hard time when she said she was an outdoor girl and liked anything that ended in "ing". She then had to go on and clarify things like running, biking, boating and skiing. She was very enthusiastic about her involvement in Hart, mentioned the Library Commission, and encouraged us all to follow Bob Barker's advice. She joined Sertoma about a year ago and Julie Degan was her sponsor.
