A bit of Old England came to Sertoma today when the newest member of the Camp Confidence program staff, John Richardson, spoke to the group about Camp Confidence. With the help of the tech crew, including Bob Sherman, Steve Augustinack, and Pam Sachs, he used the Camp Confidence Web Page
www.campconfidence.com
to take us on a tour of the facility from an English point of view. If you have not visited the site, it is worth the time. A big thank you goes to Ann and Bob Sherman
from Midwest Captions, Inc. for their involvement in creating the site and donating the web space. According to John, the big difference between England and the USA is the availability of land. The USA is vast compared to his homeland. England has about 60 million people living in about the same space as the 4 1/2 million people that live in Minnesota. This rather limits the type of outdoor experiences that most people can enjoy. There is nothing like Camp Confidence in England. The thing that truly impressed John was the community involvement in supporting the program. The widespread base of caring people including the JayCees, the Sertomans, and all the volunteers is truly unique to America. The program also included a showing of the Classic Slide Show prepared by Pam Sachs.

We are continuing to feature this week a few photos from the Classic Slide Show. Brian Kirkpatrick was one of the many Sertomans who participated in the tournament. We are very proud of Paul Gropper from Lakes Area Printing who was named the Volunteer of the Year. Many Sertomans were also among the crowd that gathered at
Zorbaz at 6:30 in the morning to launch the biggest fishing tournament yet. |
