The
Chairman of the Brainerd Jaycees $150,000 Ice Fishing
Extravaganza, Brian Sedlachek, met with Sertomans today to
share the excitement of their upcoming event which will be
held Saturday, January 26th, at the traditional
Hole-In-The-Day location. Sertoma has been busy lining up
bucket checkers as well as flag raisers. Dave Burggraff
thought that our collection of flags would add something
special to the event last year and it was so well received
that it is now considered part of the tradition. Prize
packages for this year's event have almost reached the
$200,000 mark with the last minute addition of two nice
boats, one of which replaced the $10,000 prize on the board
and the other of which is now the top prize on the raffle
tickets. These tickets are available to non-participants
anywhere you see the bright pink ice fishing banner and well
worth the $10 investment. Brian was joined at the podium by
Ron Meyer who chaired the 10th fishing tournament and was
honored to take the proceeds over the $100,000 mark for the
first time. He issued a heartfelt thank you to the members
of Sertoma and the community who make up the 300+ volunteers
who work the event and are not members of Jaycees.
Amazingly, tournament sponsors expect to push the amount of
money donated back to the community over the two million
dollar mark this year with a "normal" year. New to the prize
division is the fact that Fleet Farm has become Prize
Village with winners receiving vouchers on the ice that they
will have to claim at the store. Seventy percent of the
prize money supports program at Confidence Learning Center.
Fifty to sixty other local charities also benefit from the
remainder. Technology continues to expand at the event. This
year they will feature live streaming video from the webcams
on the ice as well as and continuously updated prize list
which people can access on the Internet from their cell
phones. Very few Sertomans could acknowledge the fact that
they have never been on the ice for the tournament in the
capacity of participant or volunteer. Jeff Olson, who
introduced our speakers, proclaimed as he does whenever
given the opportunity, that Brainerd is truly a community of
givers. |

| Greeter
Schedule |
| Remember:
As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.
Be there by 11:45 and call somebody to substitute for you if you
can't be there. |

Listen to Bl Broadcasting Stations for a complete list of prizes
for the kids Winter Wonderland contest as well as the 10 adults
who registered and won $50 gift certificates sponsored by Mary
Kolkind and Sears. Congratulations Julia Sullivan on your new
job. Julia has been head hunted by the Godfather's organization
to take over a new job in Omaha, Nebraska very soon. We all wish
her well, but of course we will sorely miss her wonderful
support of all that is Sertoma and of each of us personally.

-
Ted Anderson had to pay a puppy fine for consorting with the Dog
Pound.
-
Jeff Marchand and Bryan Jelinski are being pitted against one
another by our merciless sergeants. Fights over dandelion tea,
bags (not tea) and union rules have ensued.
-
Todd Dahl is a role model for Pam Bye's son--unfortunately it
brought him home to attend the Law Enforcement program at CLC
and she is learning exactly what she is doing wrong.
-
Joyce Anderson did Disneyland in a sweat shirt but that didn't
stop her from having to pay a vacation fine anyway.
-
Our sergeants may be pocketing some fine money since one of them
was seen ripping up money--we have heard of money to burn but
money to rip?
-
Bill Goers wants to do more signs--it seems he got addicted to
the smelly markers.
-
Fines for being well dressed, fines for being short, fines for
not finding other people's lost badges, fines for dressing too
spiffy, fines for not sitting where you belong, fines for being
out of it, fines for not paying attention to the sergeants every
whim-could we get some rumors started about nuclear weapons and
perhaps get someone impeached--just kidding!!
