Highlights from the Board Meeting
Sertoma International has been paid to make our 100% Foundation
Membership. Also, our treasurer is planning to apply to the
Foundation for a grant to help pay our pipe and drape expenses.
A new version of Quickbooks has been ordered to help keep our
finances organized.
Total membership is at 164 with two drops.
Donations were made to MN Regional Interpreters for the Deaf in
the amount of $300 and $70 was donated to Safe Ears.
Pipe and Drape thanks Rick Besmehn for making us two new carts
that allow storage of the drape on the pipe. The new product
should arrive next week. Dave Burggraff suggested we apply for
grants from Crow Wing Power and the Initiative Foundation also to
help offset the costs.
The new and improved gossamer ceiling will be used in January. It
is now sewn together and has grommets to make set up easier.
Declining membership is an issue and everyone is encouraged to
bring in new members. However the consensus of the Board is that
we have a strong membership that is working hard and we should
concentrate on keeping the members we have also. |

| Remember:
As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.
Be there by 11:45 and call somebody to substitute for you if you

| Sertoman of the Day |
Brian
Kirkpatrick did a wonderful job of being the reluctant Sertoman of
the Day. Brian was actually signed up by his good buddy Mark Korte
and the quote is, "I am not through with you yet." Brian's sense
of humor allowed him to tell us about his stay in the hospital and
his trip around the world with his bare butt hanging out. Actually
he only toured his ward at the hospital, but that was probably
enough.Brian also introduced his wife Davi with a humorous
reference to the other outstanding Swedish names in her family.
His two children are grown up and his daughter is attending
Arizona State University. He thought he was brought into the club
by Dave Burggraff who handed him off to new member Melody Banks
who wanted to earn her GEM Award and he has been a member since
1995.
Brian did remember what he does as President of Wells Fargo in
Brainerd, Baxter, Ironton and Pequot Lakes. It is the fourth
largest bank in the country and offers a full
range
of financial services. Brian's job is to take care of customers,
employees, and stockholders. He has been working with Wells Fargo
for 24 years.
Brian's outstanding achievement in Sertoma has been his two
stints as Sergeant. He, of course, is a hunter, fisherman, and
golfer. You have to choose which is his "best" side from the two
photos offered. |

Of
Note |
|
Tom Rosenberger brought in a Brainerd Dispatch article submitted
by Randy Phillips when he was president several years ago. The
club had 153 members at that time and only had two major fund
raising activities--Pipe and Drape and Swinging Sertomans.
The brochure picture of the original group of crazy guys on the
ice at Confidence Learning Center was part of the article. This
week the band just played a gig as the inaugural event at the new
McGregor Auditorium. Our president was commenting today and how
rewarding it is to realize that Sertoma meets the challenges
presented to it by the community.
The new flag project, the bell ringing and the Winter
Wonderland efforts show that our group is always looking to the
future as well as taking care of all the things that are
traditionally part of the club. |

Rumor Corner
|
-
Cowboy Steve (Rose) did a Raboin imitation today since our
vociferous lawyer was absent. HMMM Vern wasn't here again
either.
-
Bill Mitch and Bob Ehrich want to know who Beyonce is and why
she is playing at the McGregor Auditorium (Dave Clausen was
complimenting the Swinging Sertomans in his own inimitable
fashion).
-
Mary Marana doesn't remember who she owes money to so we all
decided she owed us a dollar.
-
Charlie Bartels is now a "Proven Ice Management Consultant".
-
President Mau got our award from the Foundation--he couldn't
decide what it was and started out with thingy, went to
deallybop, and finally was given three logical choices in patch,
medallion or badge.
-
Gerry Peterson is retired again, Julia Sullivan isn't at all but
claims to be real tired.
-
Pam and President Mau are very grateful not to be members of
that singing club. (begins with an R).
-
We are all very very very grateful that Sergeant Bill Goers and
Brian Kirkpatrick who lived in the same dorm at the University
at the same time did NOT find each other.
-
Thanks Dave Burggraff for the gynecologist at the local bar
joke. Can your figure out what the new drink was called?
-
It was a great day for greeters--thanks Mark Korte, and Deb
Kohan for greeting with help from Thomas Krekow
