One of the largest groups to meet lately at the noon Sertoma meeting was privileged to hear an excellent presentation from Blue Cross on their newly developed blueprint for health called
"Minnesota Decides". Spokesperson Dr. Sanee Magnan and her helper Jan Hennings presented slides and information on the latest effort by this company to do something about rising health costs. Dr. Magnan is a general internist involved in adult care and she opened her remarks with the statement,
"I believe the solutions to today's health problems lie with people like yourselves." Blue Cross is visiting 15 communities to try and solve the problems caused by a 40% increase in health care costs. The forum was held Wednesday night at CLC and was hosted by Tim Penny, author of the book Common Cents and a former legislator. They are canvassing the state looking for options, solutions and consensus to answer the questions,
"What kind of health insurance do Minnesotans want?"
"How much are we willing to pay for it?" and "Who should pay for it?" The key principals that have been identified through a unique survey include fairness, compassion, choice, and a market driven method. Uninsured people in North Central Minnesota are at the 4.7 level. Minnesota consistently ranks highly in health care but this is threatened by the rise in costs caused mainly through advances in technology, the utilization of new drugs which are being directly marketed, and the graying society we live in. People who are not insured need to understand the programs that are available. A good question and answer period followed Dr. Magnan's speech. She concluded her remarks with the statement,
"There are going to be some touch choices made but they can be made better at a local level.,"

Congratulations to Tami Webb, John Raboin, Joe Brenny, Kathy Christensen, Steve Augustinak and Lori Redmond who received their pins for bringing in a new
member. FAS 829-7761 Steve Wardrip
Kathy Christensen was our first FAS winner. She collected $10 for finding her name after the letters
FAS and Pam's phone number. Keep reading those newsletters and checking for your name.
Latecomers to today's meeting spilled over into the booths since we had such a large number of attendees. Keep up the good work Sertomans, recruiting members who attend the meetings and who participate in all our functions.
FAS ~ Find a sawbuck reward. On-line newsletter readers
can peruse the articles looking for their own name following the
acronym
fas. Call Pam Sachs before the next Monday and she will see
that you collect a sawbuck if you attend the following meeting.
This is President Mike Boen's innovative idea to encourage more
people to read the newsletter online.

Hidden are three prominent Sertomans. They are enjoying the fellowship at Camp Confidence's winter party Fat Tuesday on Saturday. This is the second year the camp has opened its doors on a weekend for a family fun time get together that includes outdoor activities and a chance to stay at the facilities. FAS 829-7761 Jim Park |

You can probably identify this Sertoman easily but what is the occasion and exactly where did this incident take
place??? |

One of our Sertomans didn't get invited to the inaugural parties, so he decided to put himself in the white house the easy
way... cut and
