Mick Tuomi and Shirley Peterson were the co-speakers at our meeting representing the 6th annual American Heart Walk to fight heart disease and stroke which will be held at the Westgate Mall on Saturday, February 12, 2000. As co-chairs of this event, both were very persuasive and informative in regards to the life-saving importance of early prevention methods. Mick told his personal story which involved an early heart attack and his efforts to improve his quality of life after that attack. Shirley emphasized that cardiovascular disease is still the number one killer. She
asked us all to look at the risk factors such as smoking, drinking, and
overeating and do something about them now. She encouraged us all to exercise at least 200 minutes per week and encouraged us to walk,
walk, walk. |

The American heart Walk is a walking event that focuses
attention on exercise as an important part of a
heart-healthy lifestyle. It is held in communities
across the country to support the fight against
cardiovascular diseases--our nation's No. 1
killers. The money raised in Minnesota stays in
Minnesota and is used to fund the American heart
Association's research and community education
programs. Check-in begins at 8:00 a.m. at the
Westgate mall and the walk begins at 8:30. If you
can't participate, sponsor someone who is.
