The
chocolate residue found in an ancient pot suggests that Mayans
were drinking chocolate 2,600 years ago, which is the earliest
record of cacao use. From there to modern day Valentine's Day,
chocolate has been a big part of life. The latest news says dark
chocolate is good for you because it contains many antioxidants.
Our speaker today was Nancy Williams from Chocolate Etc.
Her store is located downtown and has a huge in store collection
of chocolates and the capacity to order many more varieties and
shapes. She is offering a special for those who order before the
12th. Not only did Nancy give our Board Chairman Dave Clausen
lessons in how to make a short, to the point, speech but she
brought treats. If you didn't attend today you missed the
scrumptious combination of potato chips and chocolate. Nancy
specializes in what she calls "Little Red Boxes" where you can
have any combination of candies you would like. She has many
special molds for different occasions and even has "adult" gifts.
Of course the mention of this was solicited by one of our members
with a question who probably rushed right over to the store to buy
a strip checkers game. Nancy remarked, "My question was what was I
going to do next, and the answer was sniff chocolate!" |

| Announcements |
| The dates have been announced for Camp
Sertoma. Our group was instrumental in the founding of
Camp Sertoma for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children held each
year at Confidence Learning Center. This year again will see
two sessions with the younger students attending July 8-13th
and the older students the 15th-20th. If you can spare some
time to volunteer, plan on joining the kitchen crew. |
| Thanks to all who helped unload the Pipe
and Drape. A special thanks to Gene Farone and the Lake
Region Storage Company who are providing space for this
project. |
| The pipe and drape dates are March 9th
Aitkin, March 24th, Princeton, March 22-25
Lewies RV, March 23-26 Rolfings, March 28-31

| Our hard-working Pipe and Drape Committee
has gathered up $4,000 in grants. Grand Casino Mille Lacs
under the guidance of our own Amy Doyle has provided $2,000
and Steve Augustinack as a member of the Crow Wing County
Power Board presented a check for another $2,000 at today's
meeting. He explained that Crow Wing does not usually grant
money to service clubs but their Board was convinced of the
need to support Sertoma that covers areas in the community
that it does not in its charitable efforts. Thanks Tom
Rosenberger for an excellent presentation to that Board. |

As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.

Of
Note |
|
Dave Clausen spoke today to encourage people to attend the
Regional Convention in May in St. Cloud. He remarked, "People who
go to conventions get more involved in the club." He stressed the
networking and the chance to get to know people from our club and
other clubs much more personally and make lifelong friends. He
stressed what a dynamic club we have compared to many others in
our region. Not only are we one of the largest clubs but we have
so many great projects and give back so much to our community. |

-
Sergeant Bill came up with a new way to make the temperature
improve--he fined everyone who works for Bremer Bank so they
would go back to the office and encourage the boss to advertise
better temps.
-
Dave Clausen is not the conscience of our club (but he is a darn
good walking advertisement for the fun we have as well as the
work we do).
