Program
Sertoma Speaker - Carole PaulsonSecond and very impromptu speaker from the ranks was Carole Paulson who did an excellent job of filling in for a speaker who canceled at the last minute.

Carole has been a member of Sertoma since 1995 and she stood before us today to enlighten us a bit about taxes. Since Carole is the owner of Carole Paulson Accounting, she is well qualified to speak on that subject. If you would like a break on your tax preparation go to the back of your new Yellowbook which has the Camp Confidence Logo printed on its spine again this year and use the $10 coupon to visit Carole at 304 East River Road in Brainerd.

Carole took us through some of the major things we have to think about in tax season. She explained how the deductions have changed, especially the ones for charitable contributions thanks to Hurricane Katrina. The new choice of either sales tax or income tax deductions was a topic of discussion. She brought along some handy calculations forms for those Sertomans with children who qualify for education deductions.

Carole has been a long time member of the Toastmaster’s Club and sets a standard for speakers.

Thanks Chuck Brenny for Taking Notes!!!!
Announcements
Thank You Social Committee Nancy Hallam remarked at the beginning of the meeting when discussing the Ski Gull social, “It was so fun.” She wanted to thank the members of her committee who were active in this project including Diane Ulmen who prepared the chili, Dick Stoltman, Ron Morris, Gene Farone and Missy Lake.
Keep Tami Webb in your prayers and thoughts this week as she is dealing with serious cancer issues for her father who is presently in the hospital in Rochester. If you see Tami at the Community Day Event this weekend give her a hug or if you don’t see her a call would certainly be appreciated.
Beth Burnard mentioned that people, especially the war veterans, are very pleased with the flag project. Her friend runs a restaurant in Nisswa and has heard many nice comments about the flags. She is looking for people to go out and sell more flags for this season--see her if you have time to work on this.
April 27 thru 29 - Great Plains Regional Convention in Dubuque, Iowa. Learn more about what is happening in Sertoma by attending meetings and make some great new friends with all the fun activities. Sign up at the meeting or see Kari Robinson. On the home front the Board voted to include the dues raise to finance the 2008 Convention in Brainerd. The next nine quarters will see $10 added on to everyone's dues. This surcharge is non-refundable and will be used to cover expenses as they arise. Brainerd Noon Sertoma members are all registered to attend the convention and prepaid through this charge.

As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10 minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate. Sertoman of the Day

Sertoman of the Day - Mark SandelinMark Sandelin was another Sertoman like me who got involved before he ever joined the club. He was helping his sponsor, Dave Clausen, ring bells before he joined about a month ago.

Mark currently works with Erica Eigner at Tradition Mortgage. The business includes all aspects of financial counseling including mortgage lending, tax exempt, real estate and golf developments, titling, and wealth management. He has been with the company for 2 years and they are located in the Johnson Center.

Mark and his wife Pam (there’s that lucky name again) live on the lake and enjoy all the activities that go with it. He has lived in Nisswa since l989 but was originally from Browerville. His most embarrassing moment happened at college and involved some “streaking”.

Of Note
Rumor Corner
  • We hope Crash Rosenburger survived—that was the only casualty from the tubing last evening.
  • Carole Paulson not only speaks well she specializes in plate juggling.
  • Dick Snowman Stoltman came off the hill last night looking like a frozen moonwalker and muttering, “I need to have more beer to do that again!”
  • Welcome back Dave Bergin and long lost Sertoman who couldn’t even find a badge Greg Straka
  • Congratulations Julie Sullivan who is the new owner of Max’s Liquor.
  • Scotty Fisher’s dumb question of the day, “Pam, do you fax your garbage to Gary (Loge of Waste Partners)?
  • Ron Morris is a tail gater.
  • Karen Owen paid a Trent Brent fine todBrainerd Sertoma Clubay. Trent was a little annoyed at being relegated to second banana in the Sergeants column.
  • And what were Dave and Amie doing playing doctor with the gavel during the Sergeants presentation--they didn't even get a fine. (see picture)

Photos Photos Everywhere New photos go up almost every week on our new MSN Community homepage. This community is for the club, easy to join and gives you the opportunity to add edit or delete any photos that are posted as well as leave messages for fellow Sertomans. It is a good way to thank someone for doing a good job or give them some positive feedback for a big event in their life. If you wish to view the current photographs or check out the new online directory go to:  http://communities.msn.com/BrainerdNoonSertoma/_whatsnew.msnw
