Libraries
are lovely according to our speaker for today, Marta Mersereau who
is branch manager for the Brainerd Public Library. According to
Marta, ours is even lovelier than before thanks to all new
carpeting and a fresh new look that has rearranged everything to
be lighter and roomier. She came to invite us all to utilize the
many facilities and programs the library has to offer.
She is very proud of the over 100 magazines that offer
information on any subject of interest to anyone. She talked about
the mobile library that is more than just a bookmobile. Perhaps
you would like to do some local research in the microfilm of the
Brainerd Daily Dispatch that goes back to 1883? Maybe Sertoma
would like to apply for a grant through their extensive Foundation
Center Collection that is unmatched in a one hundred mile radius?
Books on tape and CD, music, videos, children’s story times, and
the large available meeting room were also a part of Marta’s talk.
A question from the audience brought out information about Book
Club in a Bag. The library has 25 titles (20 copies each with
study guides) that they check out for 6 weeks so that you can have
your own version of Oprah’s Book Club right here in River City.
Marta ended her talk with an invitation to enjoy a tour either as
a group or individually. |

Schedule |

| Remember:
Greeters (Be sure to take care of your duties that include meeting
people at the door and getting the ticket money counted and
divided with half going to Tami to give away and half to Diane for
the social committee's budget). As greeter you have several
duties. You need to arrive about 10 minutes early. It is your job
to greet people, help them find their badges and sell them a
ticket if they wish to participate. The money collected must be
divided by the Greeters equally--half goes to the Current Club
Treasurer and half goes to the Club President along with the
bucket of tickets. Be there by 11:45 and call somebody if you
can't. Call Patty Hartman. |

| Sertoman of
the Day |
Jeff
Olson thought he was being sneaky when he signed people up to be
Sertoman of the Day last week, but he got caught and had to do an
impromptu speech today.
He got a little assistance from Pam Sachs who reminded him that
he still is known as “Steve” in East Gull Lake because of his
participation in a practical joke when they first met.
He talked about his background teaching on the college level.
His great job included touring wilderness areas with students. He
explained how deeply involved Sertoma is in events at Confidence
Learning Center. The Sertoma Mariucci Fiesta is coming up in June
and those of you who are new to Sertoma are encouraged to get
involved and find out about Camp which provides outdoor learning
for people with developmental disabilities. Jeff is Executive
Director at Camp and has been working there for 20 years. He is
divorced and currently lives two doors down from his place of
employment. |
