Program
Brainerd, Minnesota Sertoma ClubKirk Helmberger, Walmart manager, was today’s speaker. Kirk was filling in for the representative of the Children’s Miracle Network who could not make the meeting. Walmart and Re/Max Lakes Area Realty have joined together to help sponsor a great fund raising activity to raise money for this international not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing better health care for millions of children. March 20th will see teams sponsored by businesses and organizations such as Sertoma compete in a Stationary Bike Race at the Westgate Mall. Kirk himself has held the record time which amounted to 14 miles in the time allowed (about 30 miles an hour). This is the 4th annual event and they have raised $26,675 so far. This year they hope to have many more teams and raise at least $10,000. Get together 10 people willing to compete and set a goal to collect at least $600 iChildren's Miracle Networkn pledges. Children’s Miracle network was founded in 1983 by Marie Osmond and John Schneider. The Minnesota recipient of local funding is Gillette Children’s Hospital which has been around 107 years and specializes in treating kids with disabilities. Their criteria are that no patient is turned down. In 1980 Mobile Outreach Clinics were established by Gillette and they visit Brainerd at least once a month to fix or adjust children’s equipment, prosthetics or braces. Crow Wing County patients were seen 400 times. Since its inception, CMN has raised more than two billion dollars for children’s hospitals. One hundred percent of every dollar contributed remains in the community where it was donated. Let’s all get out and support this worthwhile activity.

Sertoman of the Day
Sertoman of the DayDianne Ulmen was our honored Sertoman. She and her husband Richard moved to the Brainerd area eleven years ago due to some corporate restructuring that would have sent them to California. Diane and Richard have been married eleven years and share five married children and eight grand children between them. Its About Thyme Catering attempts to raise the bar in Brainerd catering. They are located on North Long Lake. She employees two talented part time chefs including one who worked in Europe and 10 servers. They can do anything from 5 course dinners to executive box lunches. They added a bed and breakfast called Nature Thyme to the mix just recently. If you would like to check out the websites they are located at www.itsaboutthymecatering.com and www.naturethyme.com Dianne intends to become more involved in Sertoma now that her business is organized. The FAS Program was designed to encourage people to read the newsletter. Even those who attend the meeting can benefit from reviewing the announcements etc. If you find the letters FAS followed by your name, you must call the number provided and just leave a message that you called and attend the next meeting to collect your money. Simple--however 90% of the people never respond.
Photos Photos Everywhere New photos go up almost every week on our new MSN Community homepage. This community is for the club, easy to join and gives you the opportunity to add edit or delete any photos that are posted as well as leave messages for fellow Sertomans. It is a good way to thank someone for doing a good job or give them some positive feedback for a big event in their life.
