Pat Eyestone The new enhanced 911 system works like a charm where it has been implemented fully-areas served by the Consolidated Telephone Company in Crow Wing County according to today's speaker, Pat Eyestone. Pat has been involved from the beginning in the efforts to get all of Crow Wing readdressed and online. Each county varies as to each use of a numbering system, but ours is using the one grid system which means that numbering should be consecutive from west to east and north to south. The "o" spot originates in the southwest corner of the county due to the geographical shape of the area covered. The maps for the county are completed and available online. These maps are interactive and can be made to show great detail. Pat was not sure of the exact URL but would be glad to share that information with you if you called her office. She will also be able to tell you your new address if you have not received official notification. Many of these were "lost" in the mail because both phone companies and the U.S. Post Office are having a difficult time keeping their data bases up-to-date. According to Pat most of the surrounding areas are 100% complete and the rest are waiting on Qwest to finish. The Q and A period at the end just reinforced people's frustration with the inaccuracy of area phone books.

Sertoman of the Day

Rita JohnsonRita Johnson started her speech as Sertoman of the Day by saying, "I would like to thank my sponsor, Kim Hauglie, who's done a great job of welcoming me to Sertoma since December when I joined." Rita and her husband Dave are working together in a Prudential Financial Services office. She joined him after spending the last 6 years raising their two daughters who are now 9 and 7. They live on the lake and the girls are fond of frogs, toads and their pet mice which have just produced many babies. Both her and Dave are active members of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Lakes Area Newcomers Club. Rita enjoys quilting and is a member of the Pinetree Patchworkers group that does a lot of community service. Rita's dream for the future is probably shared by many-a peaceful world, a cure for all cancers, more vacation time, healthy kids and good retirement years. FAS 829-7761 Kim Hauglie

Note

Pete Mogenson received his long overdue Gem Award.

The Ditch pick is May 1st (a change from the date first announced). Many members will be leaving that Thursday for the Regional Convention so it will be on Monday. Mike Boen called for a show of hands and the majority voted to cancel the noon meeting and have a more elaborate meal at the Ditch pick.

It is not too late to sign up for the Regional Convention in Sioux Falls. Tami Webb announced that the Board voted to pay $100 of the $135 fee for members who wish to go. You must sign up now and pay your $35 when you sign up so that room reservations can be made. You are responsible for your own room expenses.

Welcome new members Jeff Birks and Joelle Schmidt.

Some issues have been raised concerning the Sertoma Sunshine efforts. As a group we do want to acknowledge the good things that happen to the people in our club and provide moral support when things are not so sunny. Mary Marana, as one of the chaplains, has agree to be the coordinator of our efforts. Her numbers are as follows; 828-4539 or 829-2997. Please contact her if you feel a card or flowers are appropriate. Sertoma Sunshine
