Best of Club Today was not only Valentine's Day, but also, the announcement of yearly awards. The following is a tribute prepared and read by Karen Owen for our
"Sertoman of the Year" - Milo Johnson.
When asked to serve he said "yes". Our Sertoman of the Year has long been active in the Brainerd Area Sertoma Club. Yes, he has been at the Camp Confidence wood cutting, he has set pipe and drape and hauled the trailer for conventions and meetings to raise
funds, he has been there in the ditches literally cleaning the roadsides on behalf of the club and he has sponsored many new members. The facts while not astounding are indeed inspiring. This Sertoman quietly participates; encouraging, facilitating, and always looking for the good and finding a common ground to meet and resolve. Though not flamboyant, his consistency and persistence get the job done. Working hard to this Sertoman means many things from soliciting All of the food for the Mariucci Fiesta, to serving in and leaving his mark on many areas throughout the club. He became a charter member in both the Little Moran Club and the Camp Confidence Sertoma Club. During Milo's tenure as President, the Club had the distinction of sponsoring a new youth related program at Brainerd Senior High School. His belief in Service is reflected by a lifestyle of service including his active participation in the First Lutheran church council and his hard work promoting the Body Shop and Auto Mechanics program at Central Lakes College. Karen's closing remarks reflect her admiration for Milo,
"One of the best things about being a Sertoman is being introduced to and coming to know people of character with solid values and a commitment to something bigger than they are. I cannot think of a better way to describe our Sertoman of the Year, a genuine individual, a gentleman and true ambassador of Sertoma with a big smile and a warm handshake for everyone."

Sertoman of the Day
|

|
George Moore was our very entertaining Sertoman of the Day. He is happily
enjoying retirement after 41 years in management mostly with Red Owl and
County Market. He moved to Minnesota from out East and one of his goals was
to stay in the area. He came back to Brainerd in 1991. His career included
a stretch in the Military where he met his wife Bonnie who is a Brainerd
native. George was very proud of his marriage which is approaching the
fifty year mark. His children are all grown up and working at various
occupations. George joined Sertoma when he returned to Brainerd for the
last time. Thanks for the amusing anecdotes about the army, Hopper, Pooch,
and for being a faithful member of the club. |
