Brian Swerine took us back in time 90 years to the point in history where William Boyce, a Chicago publisher, was inspired to bring Boy Scouting to America. The Brainerd area scouting group is celebrating the 90th anniversary with the rest of the country .Brian went on to explain that the Pine Tree District involves 3 area counties and has just completed its most successful year every. Their membership continues to grow and they are very proud of their achievements which include 4.6% of their scouts achieving Eagle Scout status. He talked about two new youth programs. Venturing will emphasize high-adventure and team building and will work well with the Serteen concept that is becoming a reality in our Brainerd area. They have also been involved in a Juvenile Diversion program which served 48 youth participants and helped them to stay out of trouble. He then thanked
everyone in their room for their support of the program. An impressive number of our membership has direct ties to scouting. |
