Paul Gropper introduced our speaker of the day, Mike Jay, who spoke to us in his persona of President of the Lakes Area Children's Museum. The Museum is presently located in the old Brainerd Mall and one of Mike's jobs is to find new quarters. The Museum has grown by leaps and bounds--200% in the last year that saw about 90 school groups schedule tours. With a bigger facility the program could be expanded to area towns like Aitkin and Grand Rapids as well as include more exhibits like the airplane that they would like to be able to display. Exhibits stress hands on learning with everything from a nutrition center to working with magnets and kaleidoscopes. Adults are encouraged to bring children to the museum which is opened 7 days a week (after school only during week days). The mission statement of the museum is to provide quality time for adults and children to interact by participating in an activity or project where the child is learning something new. |

Congratulations |

Congratulations to Brenda Meech, our hard working secretary who has won the nomination for regional secretary from our district. Brenda is nearing the end of her second year term of office. She has faithfully served three presidents: Brian Skogen, Randy Phillips, and Milo Johnson. She joined Sertoma in 1995. She immediately became involved as co-chair of the rookie party and in enough other activities to be named
"Rookie of the Year". Brenda is looking forward to attending the regional convention in Fort Dodge. She has been active in the sponsorship committee also. Flowers are a part of her charisma, she is in her second year as chairperson of the American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days. She has served as a Chamber Ambassador and is currently Camp Confidence Sertoma Club Treasurer. Her many duties as secretary include quarterly reports and keeping accurate records of club activities. She and her hard-working husband are raising three children who are also very active in things such as basketball and Just for Kicks. |
