Steve Mau presented the Board Report highlights and
also the Winter Wonderland Wrap-Up. Steve presented
the info about the visitors to the site. He did get
a gentle reminder in to the group that decided that
they did not feel like collecting information, so
the figures are not as accurate as they could be. In
two years 15,000 cars with about 55,000 people have
viewed the displays. This year they represented 452
different zip codes and 31 states. The weather was a
plus and minus factor because the early snow did
bring people out to view the displays but also
caused some cancellations cutting down on the
totals. The big changes were the increase in the
total number of displays, the all LED Christmas tree
which is now a permanent part of the display, and
the additions to the Village of the gingerbread
house display, the large character cutouts for
photos on the deck, and the live music (thanks to
David Pundt). Many more people had their photos
taken with Santa this year since we gave them one
free photo. The kids design contest was again part
of the success of the project. The addition of two
walking tours involved about 300 people who enjoyed
the chance to take a leisurely view of the displays.
Projected revenue this year was $52,000. That would
have been fairly close without the addition of the
expenses for the LED and the trailers purchased for
storing. Actual profit shown on the statement was
$43,087.28. Plans are to return $35,000 to the
community. This does not reflect the additions to
the Arb which have improved the value of the
property including the infrastructure, the new
speakers, and the repairs to the entrance gate.
Midwest Displays has been paid for 2 1/2 years of
the three year contract and plans are to continue
with the company. The projection of 2010 is a profit
of $73,000 and by 2011 it should be up to $85,950 if
things continue to go as planned. Thanks to all the
Sertomans who made this work! Thanks Bob Morey for
your assistance with photography and Bonnie
Cumberland for the help with attendance. |

Board Highlights |
- The Aitkin Chamber of Commerce paid their
last year's bill in full and is scheduled for a
big show March 14th. Much help will be needed
for the set up and take downs.
- Membership dues collection is down--it could
be economic or it could be timing. Steve urged
people who are feeling a financial crunch to see
a Board member about working on the dues
problem. We would like to keep all of our active
members on board.
- New members welcomed are Karen Bare from the
Lodge and Jaime Rowlette from Weizenegger Engle
Insurance. Chris Close was a drop.
- We are participating in the Food Shelf Drive
for the Salvation Army the month of March. Bring
non perishable food to one or more of the March
meetings please.
- More information about the Sioux Falls
Convention will be announced shortly by
President Korte. If you have any questions
before that, call him.
- The Little Falls National Guard is deploying
and needs a two year commitment for assistance
on the Bataan Death March program. Les Franz,
David Pundt and Joe Schulte will get involved
this year so that they know what is needed. They
are looking for 30-35 volunteers to do the
"work".
- The Technical Committee is working on our
Central Line with Consolidated Telephone
Company. The number will be 454-SERVE and will
take voice mails, convert them to emails, and
send them to the appropriate person for a
response. Quick Books Online is probably going
to be the way finances are handled from now on.
Our current laptop is very outdated and this
will give more than one person access to the
information. Gus is also working on a new format
for the data base so we can get our roster
updated online and on paper.
- Sponsorship donated $3000 to Warrior Way,
$500 to the Fourth of July Celebration, $100 to
the Soap Box Derby and $50 to the Take a Kid
Fishing Program.
- Partnering with local non profit
organizations to provide personnel for Winter
Wonderland set up and take down is being
considered. This would relieve some of the
burden that seems a bit overwhelming at times
for members who are available during the day
time.
- Bob Morey has agreed to become the rookie
chair of the gossamer ceiling project.

As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.

Pete
Knight comes to Sertoma by way of People's Security and former
President Randy Phillips. Actually Randy brought him the first
time and abandoned him so he claims Karen Owen as his sponsor.
Pete is originally from Massachusetts and moved to Brainerd in
1992. He spent several years in his younger wilder days working
for C and L Distributing. In fact his most embarrassing moment
involves staying overnight in the back of the local liquor store
with his buddy Ted who still works for the company. It seems
they were driving a "BEER" truck and had sampled a bit too much
while restocking the liquor store. He also thought his toilet
paper beer can Christmas tree courtesy of his neighbors was a
close second. Pete married his wife Maureen on St. Patrick's Day
and settled into family life. His hobbies include camping,
boating and fishing with his daughter who 7 and his son who is
3. Pete is also a sports nut with an active remote. People's
Security Company bills itself as "Your online source for
security, home automation, and structured wiring for cable,
Internet and phone lines." They employ12 1/2 people (Pete says
Randy is the half) and the company is located in the Crow Wing
Power building. |

Rumor Corner
|
- Uncle Art is leading the celebration dance for the stimulus
package and getting complimented on his letter to the editor
writing skills again.
- Kapitan Kristine H. Held down the greeter's spot by herself.
Some of those rookies should have jumped in with their tickets.
Finally Andi Holmes did a short stint at the ticket selling.
- Carole Paulsen stays warm in her Russian Cossack hat--very
attractive!! Bill Goers was going to fine Mike Boen because the
cold has returned and he wants him to quit predicting it on the
radio.
- Hmm Darren Larson has a tan he claims he got in
Brainerd--right!
- LoAnn was special guest of the dog pound today. Consensus at
the news table--we don't want to be invited.
- Is Nanci Williams partnering up with John Raboin to offer
Legal Chocolates Etc?
- The harem table finally went coed and had to pay for that
too.
- Karen Munsterteiger didn't finish Brian's massage (Andi
piped up she didn't have all day) when Brian made his innuendo
and fined the poor woman. Praying in a see through blouse got
Andi fined herself.
- Mark Kolkind is not offering the right discounts for
seniors--Brian wants to see more things like Viagra on her sales
flyers.
- Jeff Marchand was caught shopping for bikinis at Herbergers.
- Happy Valentine's Day--Bill Goers gave our cheapskate
president a ticket for a car wash since that is what his wife
wanted for VDay and she didn't get.
- One wonders at what tall dark handsome Matt Davis could have
done to annoy our short nerdy substitute sergeant.
