Program
The mission of the Brainerd Lakes Area Community Foundation is to link donors with the needs of our community, and beyond, by creating permanent endowments. This organization has been in existence since 1989. The idea has finally reached the stage where they have 4 million dollars in assets which they can return to the community in terms of grants of $200.000. For example, Laura Beilke and the Youth as Resources received a grant to include the Salvation Army families in need in the Breakfast with Santa last Sunday. Forty-four per cent of the grants in Minnesota go out-state and one of the goals of this group is to keep the money here. They are one of 200 nationally accredited organizations. Since the total across the country is about six hundred, that makes them one of the better groups. They share business structure with a wide area to make administrative costs as economical as possible. The serve 33 different funds for non-profits including Camp Confidence. They provide services especially relating to investing donations. The MN Real Estate Foundation is part of this group and facilitates the gifts of real estate. They establish many Donor Advised Funds for individuals that save them money, get them larger tax breaks, make anonymous giving possible, and provide more flexibility as well multiplying the impact of the charitable dollars. Mike Burton who has been a very active community person since 1989 is head of this local organization and spoke to Sertoma today. Bonnie Cumberland and Allen Hall have also been very active in its development.
Thanks Pam Sachs for taking notes.

Sertoman of the Day

Tami Webb was very eager to talk about her new venture Webbway Enterprises. She has decided to take her skills and make them work for herself. Her company specializes in marketing and networking. For instance she is on her way to Fargo to spend a week promoting a new product. She sub contracts to organizations who no longer can afford to have an individual sales and marketing person. A recent success story involved a card referral that landed a $10,000 transaction for a client and an excellent referral fee for her new business. She is also working as the storytelling grandma at a daycare. Tami has been in Sertoma for ten years and has been greatly influenced by her association with Hopper. She has served in many capacities including social director, chairman of the volunteers, VP and President, and District Governor. Tami moved here 15 years ago from New Ulm. She has 2 grown children and 9 1/2 grandchildren. She claims to have no embarrassing moments, but helpful Reed Campbell told her to talk about her 47th birthday and the red cowboy hat . Good luck Tami on your new enterprise.

Of Note
We welcomed Joyce Mikesh back to Sertoma today. She is still recovering from her back surgery, but promoted Santa into bringing her.
Business Notes
WEBBWAY Want to expand your marketing and networking for your business-large or small? Contact Tami Webb and WebbWay enterprises to make use of her skills and expertise in these fields.

It is not too late to sign up for the money management course through Dale Bolt and the Trinity Lutheran Church. "Imagine Yourself Debt Free" is a video course and is very helpful to young people who are struggling with their finances.

Rumor Corner
  • The butt connection continues. We were discussing them in the parking lot at least Karen Owen and Dave Clausen were. Clausen was on a roll today, he was checking out the microphone by singing "Rhinestone Cowboy" and licking batteries. Kinky!
Pam Bye got jealous and she is the one that turned Karen and Dave in to the sergeants.
  • Brian decided today's them was Sex and City (Brainerd that is). What well known banker and President of the School Board was fined for spending too much time in the heated bathroom at WW with his wife? And then what well known Citizen of the Year had too much fun groping for her pin? Then the two guys with the wrong chromosomes at Joe Schulte's harem table had to pay or get a sex change operation.
  • The Jury table saw Raboin get fined for wanting a glove without 6 fingers. Bryan Jelinski gravitated from the grocery table to the jury table and got fined.
  • Our illustrious president in waiting introduced herself to Chuck Isackson. Then her excuse was the fact that she had only met him at WW in his outdoor gear.
  • Dick Stoltman got fined for crediting the old men who showed up for Pipe and Drape at 6:30 at Cragun's with being up anyway because they had to pee.
  • Happy fines came from Laura Beilke on behalf of a very successful YAR Breakfast with Santa and LoAnn Reponen who has a daughter graduating from St. Scholastica very soon.
