We
had a short program today since the nurses for the vision and
hearing screening joined us for some informal chat about the
program. Pictured are Karen Lively, Mary Lastovich, and Linda
Hamilton who are with the Brainerd Public School System’s Health
Department. Linda remarked, “The Sertomans have been helping with
vision and hearing screening for 19 years and if you were to stop
doing it, we wouldn’t know who to call.” She explained that it
would take another large group of volunteers to cover over 1,000
screenings since this year we spent a total of 190 hours with 39
workers.
One of the big problems would be training a new group also
since about 90% of the people in the room raised their hands as
experienced screeners. Their goal is to expand the program to some
day include the ninth grade. She also complimented Dr. Jackie
McCall who along with Sertoma has organized a second resource for
children in need of glasses. The group includes many of the eye
professionals in the area. |

| Announcements |
| Bell Ringing President Clausen who is very
enthusiastic about winning the contest told us today that
we have a very good chance of winning if we add one more bell
ringing to our list. That sheet was quickly filled up but
Steve Mau may have some hours at Super One on Saturday
December 17th. His scout group needs help and the hours would
go into the Sertoma pot. You can also call the Salvation Army
and volunteer yourself, your spouse, your children for other
times and get Sertoma credit. Let’s ring those bells and win
win win. |

| Greeter
Schedule |
| |
| Remember:
Greeters (Be sure to take care of your duties that include meeting
people at the door and getting the ticket money counted and
divided with half going to Tami to give away and half to Diane for
the social committee's budget). As greeter you have several
duties. You need to arrive about 10 minutes early. It is your job
to greet people, help them find their badges and sell them a
ticket if they wish to participate. The money collected must be
divided by the Greeters equally--half goes to the Current Club
Treasurer and half goes to the Club President along with the
bucket of tickets. Be there by 11:45 and call somebody if you
can't. Call Patty Hartman. |

| Sertoman of

Stacy
Johnson has her own company called Heartland Exchange, LLC. She is
an attorney who specializes in 1031 Tax Deferred Real Estate
Exchange. She counsels her clients and facilitates the paper work
on deferring the capital gains tax imposed on a real estate sale.
Her office is located in Baxter. She is married to Heath and they
are expecting their first child (a boy) in January. She is
originally from South Dakota and grew up in a small town.
Her hobby is shopping shopping shopping. Her most embarrassing
moment involved her Halloween costume (a devil) at a law school
party, a pair of handcuffs, and some very embarrassing moments
with the local gendarmes. Fortunately they were just trying to
help her get them unlocked not locking them up. Her sponsor is Rob
Johnson and she has been in Sertoma for a year and a half. |

Karla Nelson was at the meeting today to receive her award from
the Festival of Trees and share a totally appropriate true story
about hearing loss in the elderly. We are sure that her husband
Lee will not appreciate all the Sertomans asking him to spell
P-I-N-E in the near future. |
