Some time to visit today with no speaker - here’s a wrap up of newsy notes: |
|
|
-
Reed Campbell was greeted by Pooch as the maker of instant sunshine. Pam prefers to think it is his shining personality but I think Pooch was referring to his reflective head. Thanks Reed for all you do for Sertoma and the Community.
-
Today was a day of intimate dining—attendance was down due to holiday traveling.
Thanks Julia Sullivan and Tom Rosenberger for greeting today. It was nice of Julia to take time off from her busy new job running Julia’s Laundry.
-
Rory Coit was overdue at the meeting today-running late. Then he started with an enigmatic reference to pregnancies directed at Diane Rook Johnson. Actually Rory is anxiously awaiting the birth of an overdue grandchild.
-
Welcome back Jean Mershon
-
Andrea and Dan Holmes thank Jeff Birks and Lake Country Journal for the gift subscription from today’s meeting. Andrea also paid a happy fine in recognition of their new December grand child.
-
Laura Beilke is hanging on to her ticket money winnings until New Year’s Eve when she intends to blow it all on champagne to ring in 2005.
-
Joe Schulte’s happy fine was paid because he has been on vacation for a week and hasn’t heard from Jinny at the office. She retaliated with a dollar of her own because it has been so peaceful there. Pooch claimed neither one of them had been at the office!
-
Kristine Hoheisel’s happy fine was paid by her neighbor at the table who wanted to announce the “Mommy-to-Be”.
-
Kevin Goedker’s happy fine was paid in honor of the 52% increase in volume at his office since last year.
-
Bonnie Cumberland’s happy fine was paid because her father has recovered from his length illness.
-
Gus tried to pay a happy dollar for his “fibers”. Charlie Bartels paid a dollar for Gus finally getting his “fiber”. Gus was really celebrating the installation of fiber optics at the school.
-
Rory’s State of the Union Speech at the end of the meeting talked about the great involvement he has seen from Sertomans dealing with serious issues in the first six months of his presidency. He is looking forward to a great new Sertoman Year.
-
Have a safe and happy New Year’s Holiday everyone!
Thanks Pam Sachs for taking notes. |

| Bell Ringing - Finale Former Sertoman Chris Kellet was instrumental in the 127 hours accumulated by the Kiwanis to win the bell ringing contest. We came in second with 90 hours up from 44 last year. The Rotary came in third with 84. Again big thanks from Brian Lehman for our efforts. |
| Jan 6 - New Member Induction, Sawmill
Inn at Noon. Contact Kris Hoheisel (Welle) at Hawthorne if you
need to sign up. |
| Feb 10 - Denny Benjamin and the social committee have decided to go for an all out gala event that will not be a Holiday Party but instead will be a Valentine’s Celebration. It is scheduled for Thursday, at the Mariucci Lodge at Camp Confidence. Seating is limited so you need to sign up early. They are also requesting that you pay when you sign up at a cost of $35 per person. Promises are for a great meal with top notch entertainment and more details to follow. |

| Greeter
Schedule |
| Remember:
Greeters (Be sure to take care of your duties that include meeting
people at the door and getting the ticket money counted and
divided with half going to Tami to give away and half to Diane for
the social committee's budget). As greeter you have several
duties. You need to arrive about 10 minutes early. It is your job
to greet people, help them find their badges and sell them a
ticket if they wish to participate. The money collected must be
divided by the Greeters equally--half goes to the Current Club
Treasurer and half goes to the Club President along with the
bucket of tickets. Be there by 11:45 and call somebody if you
can't. Call Patty Hartman. |

| Sertoman of
the Day |
Joyce Frid, the Director of Resident Services at Excelsior Place Catered Living, was today’s honored Sertoman. Excelsior Place is an assisted living facility in Baxter that is owned locally by a group known as Lakes Co. Synergic and managed by Welcome Home Management.
She described herself as a “Jack of all Trades” including such things as administrator, marketing manager, customer service, receptionist and secretary. Joyce remarked, “I have always loved working with the elderly and finally I have found what I wanted to be when I grew up.” She talked about how rewarding it was to work with elderly who have great life stories, excellent philosophy and advice to share. She talked about the last reluctant member of Excelsior Court who has reached the point where he remarked, “The whole family is going” when they all took a ride in their new van.
Joe Schulte brought Joyce into the organization with a little help from Dale Bolt and she decided she wanted to join this organization because she had heard nothing but positive wonderful things about Sertoma. Joyce has been married to her husband Tom for thirty years. They met in college where they both thought they were going to teach music but Tom got that career. Her list of hobbies included music, knitting, crocheting, games, reading and floating peacefully on Deer Lake where their families have a rustic cabin. Joyce has been a member for seven months.
