Tamala Lueck - Brainerd Bridges of HopeTamala Lueck, Coordinator for the Bridges of Hope organization in Brainerd was our guest speaker today. Her organization receives some funding through United Way and she wanted to share her thanks for Sertoma’s contribution to UW and to explain the purpose of Bridges of Hope. This religious group which was started two years ago provides assistance to hurting families with children by coordinating area social service and faith community assets. This group provides a link to area resources and in fact fielded 250 calls this past year, 117 of which were related to mental health and 78 of which received immediate help. Besides linking needy families to area resources, they provide volunteer caregivers, immediate assessments and counseling for children when other counseling is unavailable or unaffordable, and training and education to support healthy relationships and families. Tammy was extremely pleased with the opportunity to follow up on recommendations and track progress of referrals. Please call Bridges of Hope at 218-825-7682 if you know of someone who needs these services or if you wish to become involved as a volunteer.

Greg Larson of Remax of Nisswa is a personal friend of Michael’s and assures us that the concert will be tremendous, Michael is very enthusiastic about visiting the area, and that we should be prepared not only to hear some fine music, but also to be highly entertained. See Jim Potvin if you would like to help coordinate this activity.
May 22 - CAMP CONFIDENCE CLEAN UP DAY everyone welcome
June 12 - Minnesota Twins are sponsoring a Sertoma Night. The more people who attend the game, the more money we will have to donate to a charity since tickets will be sold at regular prices with discount which goes up based on the number of tickets sold becoming dollars for charity.
July 11-17 Great Plains Region Camp Sertoma—volunteers needed to cook, donations of food or ideas of where to get donations welcome.
The Board Meeting saw a few important decisions being made. Sertoma is committed to the Christmas Lights project for next year. Most of the planning and the entire sales have to be completed by this summer so if you can help get this started, your time and talents would be greatly appreciated. Another fundraiser proposed by Mike Howard was the American Flag Project. Sertoma could undertake to purchase and provide flags for suitable occasion to businesses and individuals in the area. This would mean setting up and taking down as well as maintaining the supply of flags. Not only would it improve community morale but could provide another avenue for raising funds to expand our community good works. We currently have 209 members with one addition and two drops this meeting.
There will be no meeting next week. About half of the members in attendance expressed an interest in getting together at Bonanza for an informal meeting and to enjoy a New Year’s Eve lunch the following Wednesday. There will be no newsletter until the first meeting of the New Year. If you have any important announcements that need to go out to the members please call Pam at 829-7761 or email her at eglponys@brainerd.net and she will send out an email to the membership.
The CLC Foundation is going to go ahead and give two $250 scholarships sometime in the near future.
See Mike if you want to go to Fargo December 20th and see George Kohan if you want to go to LaCrosse December 27th to check out their holiday lights events.
Dave Burggraff has received the support of our organization in his bid to become an International Director.

Sertoman of the Day
Greg Larson - Sertoman of the DaySertoman of the Day Jeff Birks continues to provide us with a pleasant mix of old and new members in the Sertoman of the Day program. Greg Larson who has been a member of our group for just a month was today’s honored Sertoman. He was brought into the group by Joe Schulte who promised to “leave him alone” if he joined. Greg actually was very enthusiastic about becoming a member of the club because he had checked it out and gotten good reports. He is motivated to make a difference in the community. Laurie and Greg have been married for 23 years and have three sons. Hobbies include hunting and fishing and he hopes to learn to golf this next summer. Greg spent 18 years with Menards but thought he would like a career change and now specializes in residential and lakeshore property at Remax of Nisswa. His major accomplishment and it is a terrific one for a brand new member is to make the Michael Johnson connection that has enabled the group to schedule a concert-fundraiser in February.
Of Note:
We have already received a big Thank You from the Women’s Shelter for our Christmas donations.

The FAS Program was designed to encourage people to read the newsletter. Even those who attend the meeting can benefit from reviewing the announcements etc. If you find the letters FAS followed by your name, you must call the number provided and just leave a message that you called and attend the next meeting to collect your money. Simple--however 90% of the people never respond.
Photos Photos Everywhere New photos go up almost every week on our new MSN Community homepage. This community is for the club, easy to join and gives you the opportunity to add edit or delete any photos that are posted as well as leave messages for fellow Sertomans. It is a good way to thank someone for doing a good job or give them some positive feedback for a big event in their life.
