Jenni Bailey, the new director of Camp SertomaJenni Bailey, the new director of Camp Sertoma, was today's presenter. Jenni has been associated with Camp Sertoma from its beginning along with her role as Outdoor Recreation Specialist at Camp Confidence, but this year she is taking on a new role. With a quick demonstration of how it feels to be left out (she began her speech with the deaf sign language that most of us do not understand), Jenni gave a passionate and enthusiastic accounting of the wonders of Camp Sertoma. The pride in her voice was very evident when she talked about the deaf and hard of hearing campers who all of a sudden realize that they can be just like everyone else and have friends who can truly share things with them. According to Jenni, the goal of Camp Sertoma is to encourage deaf and hard of hearing children to grow up thinking they are perfectly OK and that they can do anything they want to do. As Sertomans we can be proud of Camp Sertoma and the role that the Brainerd Noon Club had in its beginnings and its continued success. Jenni is looking forward to a new exciting year at Camp Sertoma. They keep growing by leaps and bounds and hope to serve at least 80 campers this year in a new venue. Instead of 6 one week sessions with campers divided by ages and what type of communication skills they have, the camp will be one week for all except the five and six year olds. This will give the campers even more of a sense of being part of a deaf community. It will pose some problems for Camp including finding enough deaf counselors to be role models for the kids. They have had a 1-5 ration of campers to staff and Jennie would like to see that continue. She also asked for our continued support and help including volunteering for a few hours (take some campers fishing for instance) or even for the week of June 23-29.It would give you the opportunity to meet the outstanding new staff person, Emily Smith, who is Jenni's idea of the perfect role model for the campers.

Sertoman of the Day
Dennis Renowski, a new member brought in by Tami Webb was our Sertoman of the Day. He is the Market and PR Director for Consolidated Telephone Co. Dennis is engaged and he and Lori are planning a January wedding. His family is from up north (Walker) and he has lived and worked in the area all his life. He attended Bemidji State University and has had several jobs in advertising and worked at UPI prior to his present job. His most embarrassing moment involved his close encounter with what could have been a very angry NFL Quarterback named Jay Schroeder. He enjoys reading and running. There is some talk of a Grandmašs Marathon in his future. Dennis joined Sertoma in July of this year. He has some pretty basic dreams for the future, "I hope that some day my car will be paid off".

Find a Sawbuck Corner:
The FAS Program was designed to encourage people to read the newsletter. Even those who attend the meeting can benefit from reviewing the announcements etc. If you find the letters FAS followed by your name, you must call the number provided and just leave a message that you called and attend the next meeting to collect your money. Simple--however 90% of the people never respond. FAS This week's winner was Kim Ellingson. FAS 829-7761 Rita Johnson .Christine Kellett did not collect.

This community is for the club, easy to join and gives you the opportunity to add edit or delete any photos that are posted as well as leave messages for fellow Sertomans. It is a good way to thank someone for doing a good job or give them some positive feedback for a big event in their life.
