Once upon a time long ago in a far away country, Jim Park got up in front of his fellow Sertomans on the day of the last meeting before the Christmas holiday. In a very convincing and serious tone he told the story of the Norwegian Nabbertacle Choir and how the Swinging Sertomans had met them one fateful day. |
|
|
|
| Then he called his Swinging Sertoman Christmas elves up to the podium to help him present what everyone thought would be some holiday music. Wrong! The elves were merely a smokescreen for the appearance of the one, the only, still mobile member of the choir. |

 |
It was very difficult for Doctor Torval Torkelson to keep a straight face because he was singing about a favorite Christmas topic for all Norwegians, lutefisk. He got very little help from his
accompanists, Mr. Park, but still managed to entertain us thoroughly. |
|
|
|
| Thanks Swinging Sertomans for your cheerful expressions of holiday cheer. |

Another new comer to Sertoma was today's featured member. Karla Nelson is a
retired grade school teacher with 30 years of experience in the Brainerd
School system, mostly teaching third grade at Garfield Elementary. Karla's
husband Lee is an agronomist with ConAgra and her son Michael is about
to graduate from college with a degree in business. Karla, a homegrown product, was a member of the first BCC class and went on to St. Cloud State University. She also earned a masters degree from Bemidji State College. Her hobbies include crafts, traveling,
and as she expressed it "downsizing her home now that she is retired." Karla listed her
achievements as "Thirty wonderful years of teaching, tap dancing ,and knowing all the words to
Calendar Girl." She is working on getting her GEM Award and hopes that her most embarrassing moment selling tickets and greeting is not part of her permanent record. Her sponsor was Pam Sachs |

Mike Boen sold out the last of the fish gutters and raised $90 for the Haapajoki fund.
The Rookies donated about $2000 to the fund and the sponsorship committee is in charge of deciding where to spend this
windfall-good going rookies!!!
It was good to see Curt Lovitz. Thanks for greeting (as he said maybe he ought to be scheduled at least once a month to get him to the meetings.

| Some issues have been raised concerning the Sertoma Sunshine efforts. As a
group we do want to acknowledge the good things that happen to the people in
our club and provide moral support when things are not so sunny. Mary
Marana, as one of the chaplains, has agree to be the coordinator of our
efforts. Her numbers are as follows; 828-4539 or
829-8212. Please contact her if you feel a card or flowers are appropriate. |
