Program
today consisted of two different presentations. We started with
a psychedelic visitor--a large painted ox who was accompanied by
Josh Porter. Josh is a local artist from Avalon Studios who is
promoting a new fundraiser for the Crossing Arts Alliance in the
Brainerd area. The Oxtrot will feature Babe the Blue Ox statues
at businesses and public locations throughout the area. The
sponsors of the statues pay an initial fee of $2800 that
includes the cost of the statue and unique decoration designed
by a local artist chosen by the sponsor. Benefits include being
noted on the Chamber Map, attracting new visitors and additional
tourism dollars to the area, providing a fun and creative
activity for area and visiting families and the chance to help a
worthy cause. Money raised through the sale of the statues at
the end of the season (Fishing Opener through Labor Day) will
provide art education in schools where budget cuts have affected
the programs. The website is located at www.oxtrot.com and gives
more details and has copies of the sponsorship packet. Josh is
pictured with Babe at the Nisswa
Parade.
Babe's lightweight counterpart which is actually a mold for the
completed statues did not photograph well at Bonanza but was
truly much more colorful. This idea is based on similar efforts
in many areas including the Twin Cities dinosaur and Snoopy
tributes.
Lori Rubin and Steve Augustinack gave us more complete details
about our Winter Wonderland Package by walking us through the
presentation the committee makes to prospective sponsors of
light displays. The Winter Wonderland at the Arb will have three
major areas--Up North, The North Pole, and Joy to the World.
Many area groups have either already become involved in the
project or have expressed an interest. The grants made from the
monies raised will be pro-rated depending on the amount of work
a group has contributed to the efforts. All the profits will be
returned to the community. A committee headed up by Karla Nelson
and Bonnie Cumberland will have a letter ready to distribute at
the beginning of the school year to select the 6 children's
designs that will be made into displays for the Wonderland. Joe
Schulte is lining up the volunteers. Rory Coit is now in charge
of marketing. Many other people have already stepped into
leadership roles and the committee itself is working hard to
sell more displays. They are asking everyone to recommend
contact people from the Brainerd area as well as outlying
businesses and communities. Thomas Krekow is putting his talent
to work on the Commemorative Brochures. Grab A Java has made a
commitment to provide product and personnel for the refreshment
stand. BL Broadcasting has donated $25,000 worth of advertising.
Although this may still seem to be an overwhelming task, we are
actually only committed to 29 days of displays plus set up and
take down time. If your business hasn't committed to a display
yet, consider the benefits of Charter membership along with the
chance to promote a cross community mission. |

| Greeter
Schedule |
| Remember:
As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.
Be there by 11:45 and call somebody to substitute for you if you
can't be there. |

Of
Note |
|
Kathi Nagorski was scheduled to be today's Sertoman of the Day,
but graciously agreed to postpone her presentation until next
week so we could get in both programs. Joyce Frid had
successful surgery and is recuperating at St. Joseph's. She is
waiting for the results of her lymph node tests. |

Rumor Corner
|
- Mary added a "morals clause" to her prayer today that
sparked all kinds of naughtiness from our rowdy crew. John
Raboin decided he would probably need to quit the club. Carol
Winegar added sister to the front of her name and included a
fictional nunnery as her place of business.
- Both Jinny Haugen and Laura Beilke have new jobs. Jinny is
still working at Essers but she is also working at BySys. Laura
is now the Executive Director of Youth as Resources.
- We were
advertising so many ticket sales today (wine tasting, Rally Up
North Motorcycle tickets) that our illustrious sheriff jumped in
to point out that he had more tickets than anybody!
- Jeff
Marchand put up a poster for Laura Beilke but unfortunately he
hid it by the bathroom at Cub Foods and had to pay a fine.
-
Cathe Picek had to pay a propositioning too close to the
sergeant fine today.
- Les Franz paid a fine for aimless
motorcycle riding. Maybe he was just practicing for the Rally Up
North which takes place Saturday. Call Shari at Camp Confidence
if you would like to work at the big party at the Waterfall that
night!
