The
crowd was small--the Chamber golf tournament took away some of
our members and others were on an annual fishing trip to Canada.
Basically the program combined a board report and a question and
answer session about the Winter Wonderland project. The Board
meeting did not have any surprises, however Rory explained that
the phonic ear moneys donated to the school system were a bit
behind because of their budget issues. Cathe Picek presented a
Pipe and Drape guideline form for the use of the equipment by
Sertomans and non profit groups. The guidelines will be handed
out at one of the next meetings, but the basic premise is that
there is no charge but advanced notice must be given. Joe and
Rory are attending 5 different regional meetings to promote our
convention in 2008. It has also been proposed to host another
comedy night with Scott Hansen to raise more money for
convention expenses. The Winter Wonderland project is the main
focus of the club for the rest of this year. Thirty three
thousand dollars has already been committed . When copies of the
budget are presented, people need to realize that the $113,000
expense is not expected to be paid in one year. The break even
point is around fifty or sixty thousand dollars depending on the
cost of the electrical installations. Jim Grant of Jim's
Electric has been very active in soliciting materials and
working with the Brainerd Utilities to keep these costs down. BL
Broadcasting has also committed serious air time to promoting
the Winter Wonderland. It is currently scheduled to open after
Thanksgiving and run until December 31st (5 nights a week).
To see a summary of this event, click on the fundraisers tab
and go to the Winter Wonderland page. A serious website for
promoting this is in the works at Midwest Captions. Many thanks
to the committee for all their hard work. All members of the
Brainerd Noon Club have to make a serious effort to get involved
in this project.

| Greeter
Schedule |
| Remember:
As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.
Be there by 11:45 and call somebody to substitute for you if you
can't be there. |

Dear Sertoma Club Members: On behalf of the Board of Directors of
the Crow Wing County Fiar Association I would like to thank all
of you for the flag display on the fairgrounds fence. It was
very impressive when viewed from 13th Street. This donation of
$100 for your club shows our appreciation for the time and
efforts it took to display these flags. We greatly appreciate
your efforts for the fair. Patty Olson, Office Manager Crow Wing
County Fair Association. |

Notes from your President |
Greetings my Sertoma friends,
As I have mentioned at our weekly meetings, I would like to see
our Sertoma club increase in membership with the goal during my
presidential year do an increase of 10% in our current
membership or 16 new members net. This does not mean we have to
stop at 16 new members! I know many of you have already been
working on this an I applaud your efforts! In my own opinion,
we need more members to accomplish our fundraising goals. We
have an ambitious Pipe and Drape schedule, Gossamer has taken on
a life of it's own, and our Flag Project has been very
successful. This is how we give back to our community! In a time
when so many of our fellow citizens are facing hard times and
struggling with everyday life, we need to step up to the plate
and deliver. I encourage all our members to volunteer in our
many fundraising endeavors.
Thank you for allowing me the honor and the privilege of serving
as your president.
Proud to be a SERTOMAN!
Julia |
