Today was M and M Day at Brainerd Noon Sertoma. Gary Walters is on
his annual campaign to raise M-oney and encourage M-entoring for
Kinship Partners. His guest today was David Downy, Executive
Director of Kinship, who thanked Gary for the tremendous impact he
has had on Kinship Partners in the Brainerd Area for the last five
years. In 2003 Gary started by biking back from New Orleans to
Minnesota. In 2004 he perched on the water tower for 9 days and
encouraged 40 new people to sign up as mentors. In 2005 he
gathered up his children and walked 437 miles across Minnesota.
Gary introduced his 2006 campaign with two hilarious ads that
have been playing on the radio including a Norsky one and our
favorite Here's the Deal Dondelinger. Gary along with his business
partner Dave Bergin are planning a 20.1 mile swim across Mille
Lacs Lake on August 16th. The swim will start at 2:30 in the
afternoon and go through the night and most of the next day. John
Raboin is in charge of the big pontoon provided by Nisswa Marine.
Sponsors include Dondelinger's, Raboin's Law Firm, and Grand
Casino among others. To be eligible to have your very own Gary
"Bob" "Beluga Whale" Walters shirt, all you have to do is call
829-4606 and pledge $100. You will also have one more Sertoma
meeting to sign up on the spot.
Sertoma usually has many more people than the two who
acknowledged being Kinship Partners involved in the program. Gary
talked about doing the hardest thing he has ever done in his life
to increase awareness of what a vital program this is and how easy
it is to take part. Mostly, these kids do not need to be
entertained They simply want to hang out with a normal family.
Dave Bergin explained that his kinship partner is happiest when
they are making a trip to Menard's to get supplies for some
project of Dave's.
The Kinship waiting list has 49 children on it, some of whom
have been signed up for several years. Children sign up for
Kinship when they are in the 5-14 year old stage and can remain in
the program until the graduate from high school. Gary, Dave, and
David all stressed how a few hours a week can make a huge
tremendous impact on a child's life. Gary is to be commended for
his dedication to this great cause. Websites to check out include

Larson for counting the money which went into the social fund.
Other competitors were Kevin Donnay (3), Mark Korte (1), Brian
Kirkpatrick (5) and Reed Campbell (6). |
| Our own traveling shoe guy is on his way to
Haiti this fall (the last week in September and first week in
October) and is looking for donations to buy shoes for the
kids who walk many miles to school each day. Tom Rosenberger
will be handing out shoes and clothing and doing what work
that can be done to improve the school buildings and grounds
that their mission has already created. Any donations will be
welcome (the shoes are now being bought in Haiti). Pam donated
the $43 prize from the Legs Contest which ended without anyone
guessing the identities of the leg guys. |

| Greeter
Schedule |
| Remember:
As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.
Be there by 11:45 and call somebody to substitute for you if you
can't be there. |

| Sertoman of the Day |
We
just met our Sertoman of the Day last week during the
introductions of the newly inducted members. We already know that
Aaron Meester is from Little Falls and that he is a business
banker for Bremer Bank. He works in the downtown branch. Bremer
Bank covers a 3 state area with 100 locations and is a six and one
half billion dollar full service operation. He listed his
hobbies as "the great outdoors" including hunting, fishing, and
recreational toys. His wife Deb works for Complete Title in Little
Falls. They have been married for three years. He became involved
in Sertoma because he wanted to meet all those outgoing and
involved people that he heard so much about. Aaron also is
involved in the Little Falls Exchange Club, Ducks Unlimited and
Employment Enterprises.
He graduated for South Dakota State University and his most
embarrassing moment involved his wife's dislike of the nickname
Debbie (either refers to a porn star or a snack cake). |

|
|
|
Welcome back Todd Dunlap, maybe we will have to make you a monthly
greeter just to get to see you. |
|
|
|
Congratulations to Grandpa Bob Ehrich who has a new grandson. |

|
Mike Boen and BL Broadcasting were recently recognized by the Red
Cross on the National Level for their involvement in the blood
drives in the area. |

Rumor Corner
|
-
Joyce Anderson tried to switch tickets with the winner who was
out getting dessert but then felt sorry for him since he just
got married.
-
Sergeants get paid to be difficult.
-
Dale Bolt paid a fine because his son was getting married.
-
Gary Loge paid a trash fine today.
-
Darren Larson represented most of the men today who have not
voted in the legs contest--wanted to do a write in vote. Alas,
the legs contest was a bust thanks to the reluctance of the guys
to get involved.
-
All the girl bankers got an interest rate fine today.
-
Politicians fell victim to the pay up for the blatant
promotions. Poor Pooch was in the direct line of fire between
Paul and Kevin today.
-
Paul Gropper is still paying the "You Know" fine.
-
For your information Dave Clausen, the Exchange Club does not
involve wives.
