Kathie
Kinder Goble who is Co-Chair of the Parent Leadership Team for
Prevent Child Abuse Minnesota was here to announce the Annual Walk
for Children which will be held on September 9th at Como Park at
9:00 a.m.The local chapter is participating in this walk and
has plans to have a local walk next year. Anyone who would like to
donate to Prevent Child Abuse can sponsor Kathie in the walk.
Kathie's mission was to convince Sertoma to help out with one
of the Parent Leadership Team's "Gathers". These will be held all
over the state with Brainerd participating mainly in the one that
will occur in Duluth. The Parent Leadership Team works with
families who need help. One of their activities involves the use
of the MagnaDoodle and a $100 donation from the Sponsorship
Committee would cover that cost.
Kathie shared her memories of several of our Sertomans. She
especially signaled out her babysitting charge Paul Heinlein, her
gratefulness to Gary Loge for buying her a winning ticket when she
was the 1992 Bonanza hostess for Sertoma, and Dan Holmes.
Our program also included a short Board report from Dave
Clausen. An effort is being made to contact those who are behind
on their dues to find out if they are dropping Sertoma. We had one
addition and two drops last month. The Lights project has been put
on hold until 2007 to make sure that things go well the first
year. Pipe and Drape has formed a committee to look into a new
trailer for our expanded program. Thanks again to Joe Schulte and
Kristine Hoheisel and their gossamer project which already has 9
new dates for next year. Everyone is encouraged to attend a Board
meeting and give their input. When you attend you are a voting
member. |

| Remember:
As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.
Be there by 11:45 and call somebody to substitute for you if you

| Sertoman of the Day |
Andrea
Holmes departed from the normal Sertoman of the Day format to make
a heartfelt plea for community involvement. Her life-changing
awareness of the importance of community service came around her
20th birthday. She considers the Brainerd Lakes Area her extended
family and talked about her activities including Sertoma.
She did mention her terrific husband and 7 children and step
children in passing. We learned that Dan's great tan came from his
trip to Sturgis and other places the past two weeks. She refused
to discuss any of her embarrassing moments but let slip something
about fiances, boyfriends, and warnings to Dan not to share.
Andrea and Dan have been members for several years and she is the
manager at Associates in Eyecare. |

Sertomans
all wished Gary Walters and Dave Bergin success in the endeavor to
swim Mille Lacs for Kinship. They were very excited about the six
Sertoma members who expressed an interest in mentoring after last
week's meeting and encourage anyone else who was at all interested
to check it out. Sertoma presented Gary and Dave with a $1,000
check to add to their growing funds which currently are over
$15,000 not including a "rumored" very large donation. |

-
Mark "darn cute" Sandelin needs to feel wanted. Maybe Jinny can
put him on her hugging list.
-
The swimmers dressed appropriately today and auctioned off a few
beluga whale shirts to make a few more buck for the swim.
-
Steve Mau's practicing his southern drawl and singing the Mickey
Mouse Ticket Song.
-
Mark Korte won the biggest calves contest. Mr. Leggs himself
(Dave Clausen) also won in high school. He spent the day
gloating about no fines for a month.
-
Diane and Diane got a headbanging fine today.
-
It seems Papa Franz is getting a bit absentminded. Something
about not paying for his cake and eating it too?
-
Thanks Amy Doyle for the pre meeting entertainment (a very good
excuse for cell phones ringing)
