Monthly Report from the Board Meeting
  1. The regular Board Meeting is held the first Tuesday of the month at 7 a.m. at Northwinds Grill. All members are welcome to take part and rookies are especially encouraged to attend as part of working toward their GEM award.
  2. The major event that was discussed was the upcoming dues increase. The committee formed earlier recommended a $5 per quarter raise that will help us continue to end the year on a surplus note. Sertoma dues do not actually cover expenses for someone who attends all the meetings. However, since we average between 60-80 members most weeks, we have always had an excess of general fund money to transfer to the sponsorship committee for return to the community.
  3. Nisswa has now joined the Flag Project thanks in part to the efforts of Sandy Fowler.
  4. Activity cards were mentioned again. The emphasis on SERTOMA activities was stressed. Rory reminded everyone that they can continue to report other volunteer activities on the bottom of the quarterly dues statement. Those who get behind in their dues will receive a quarterly invoice (which solicits payment before the quarter) plus an arrears notice.
  5. News from the district and international included the fact that anyone who sponsors a new member who stays with the club for 6 months will receive a $100 air travel check. Every member who sponsors also receives a pin. The District Fall Conference is coming up soon and rookies will want to sign up to complete that requirement of their GEM Award. Four members of the noon club took advantage of a Leadership Conference held at Camp Confidence recently. Members from St. Cloud invited us to attend their third annual September golf fund raiser—see Rory for details.
  6. Audience contributions centered around the need to move forward on the Christmas Lights project

Thanks Bob Nibbe for taking notes. The note takers from now on will be simply whoever volunteers for the day. See Rory before the meeting to pick up the sheet; it is very self explanatory and easy to use. Only 48 or so people have to volunteer once a year to cover this task that makes Pam’s job so much easier.

Greeter Schedule
Remember: Greeters (Be sure to take care of your duties that include meeting people at the door and getting the ticket money counted and divided with half going to Tami to give away and half to Diane for the social committee's budget). As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10 minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate. The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half goes to the Current Club Treasurer and half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets. Be there by 11:45 and call somebody if you can't. Call Patty Hartman.

Sertoman of the Day
Sertoman Of The Day - Sandy FowlerSandy Fowler shared some details of her life with us as today’s Sertoman of the Day. She and her husband Duane retired to Brainerd several years ago, but Sandy made the decision to return to work. She is the Talent Manager who places people on jobs at Pro Staff, a staffing company. The company is located in Baxter and is one of 19 in Minnesota. She has been there 7 years. She sold her own consulting company when they moved to Brainerd. One interesting thing about Sandy is that she has an identical twin who also lives in the Brainerd area and sells real estate. Sandy is often mistaken for a woman with two full time jobs. Her family includes 3 stepsons, 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. Tammy Webb invited Sandy into the club which she joined because she felt she could impact the community positively. Her most embarrassing moment involved her twin sister, girdles, cellophane wrap and an encounter with some armed soldiers (see what you miss when you do not attend). She enjoys reading, collecting antiques, movies and social activities. Thanks for your recent help with the flag project Sandy.
Of Note:
Welcome back Todd Dunlap
Both Steve Mau and Renee Tonkinson have suffered recent bereavements and should be in your thoughts and prayers this week. Renee lost her brother-in-law to a very early unexpected heart attack. Steve’s grandmother passed away.
Jim Potvin - Brainerd Sertoma ClubCongratulations to Jim Potvin. He was presented with his Past President’s awards today by Rory Coit
Rory also gave Dave Clausen his VP pin that was not passed on at the installation.
Greg FranzmanFinally, a picture of our newly inducted member-Greg Franzman. Greg was kind enough to get his wife to comb his hair today so that he could be “presentable” and quite handsome for his official Sertoma picture.
Rumor Corner - Old Folks
"LIFE IS NOT A JOURNEY TO THE GRAVE WITH THE INTENTION OF ARRIVING SAFELY IN A PRETTY AND WELL PRESERVED BODY, BUT RATHER...TO SKID IN BROADSIDE, THOROUGHLY USED UP, TOTALLY WORN OUT, AND LOUDLY PROCLAIMING...WOW!! WHAT A RIDE!!!"
Reporters interviewing a 104 year-old woman: "And what do you think is the best thing about being 104?" the reporter asked.

She simply replied, "No peer pressure."
The nice thing about being senile is you can hide your own Easter eggs.
Just before the funeral services, the undertaker came up to the very elderly widow and asked, "How old was your husband?"

"98," she replied. "Two years older than me."

"So you're 96," the undertaker commented.

She responded, "Hardly worth going home is it?"
I've sure gotten old. I've had 2 By-pass surgeries. A hip replacement, new knees. Fought prostate cancer, and diabetes. I'm half blind, can't hear anything quieter than a jet engine, take 40 different medications that make me dizzy, winded, and subject to blackouts. Have bouts with dementia. Have poor circulation, hardly feel my hands and feet anymore. Can't remember if I'm 85 or 92. Have lost all my friends. But...Thank God...I still have my driver's license!
A 97 year old man goes into his doctor's office and says, "Doc, I want my sex drive lowered."

"Sir", replied the doctor, "You're 97. Don't you think your sex drive is all in your head?"

"You're damned right it is!" replied the old man. "That's why I want it lowered!"
God, grant me the senility...To forget the people...I never liked anyway...The good fortune...To run into the ones I do...And the eyesight to tell the difference.
An elderly woman from Brooklyn decided to prepare her will and make her final requests. She told her rabbi she had two final requests. First, she wanted to be cremated, and second, she wanted her ashes scattered over Bloomingdales."Bloomingdales!" the rabbi exclaimed. "Why Bloomingdales?" "Then I'll be sure my daughters visit me twice a week."
Photos Photos Everywhere New photos go up almost every week on our new MSN Community homepage. This community is for the club, easy to join and gives you the opportunity to add edit or delete any photos that are posted as well as leave messages for fellow Sertomans. It is a good way to thank someone for doing a good job or give them some positive feedback for a big event in their life.
