Program
International ConventionProgram Today was the day for an International Convention report from incoming president Jim Potvin. Jim and his family made a vacation of the trip taking an extra week to explore the wonders of New Mexico which Jim says are mostly brown, brown and more shades of brown. The convention was held in Albuquerque and Jim said the scenery made Nebraska look good on the way back to the great state of Minnesota. If he wasn't enthusiastic about the scenery, he was definitely the opposite about the experience. Jim remarked, "Thank you for letting me attend. I cannot encourage you enough to grab this opportunity if you ever have the chance." The convention was marred by the sudden death of two prominent attendees including a past president but was one of the most non political conventions Sertoma has had. Sheila Redding did win her bid to become a VP. Skye Martin was elected unopposed as president. Every country that has a Sertoma was represented and that included Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and a collegiate club that has been established in Russia. The experience was very uplifting for the Russia delegation since they had been raised to believe that Americans didnšt care for anything but themselves. The most well represented area was the southeast. Our regional had twenty five people in attendance. Rory Coit will look forward to next year's meeting in Kansas City and Dave Clausen will be headed for New Orleans when he is president elect. Jim also presented Tami with the award which our club won last year for gaining nine good and enthusiastic members.
Announcements
Aug 4-9 United Way Week of Caring The United Way is painting 5 local houses as part of their United Way Week of Caring. Laura Bielke spoke briefly to the group (Laura's new job is with the United Way. Cheryal Hills also has a new job a the Lakes Country Journal). Since over 500 volunteers will be needed for this job, Roy Miller was put in charge of organizing a Sertoma Team to become involved in the painting project.
Brats and burger lunch provided by the St. Cloud Sertoma Club will be the first item on the agenda at Camp Sertoma Golf this Friday. Lunch and registration starts at 11:00. Our golf team consists of Rory Coit, Joe Schulte, Mike Howard, and Cheryal Hills. Mike Howard (828-8224) is still looking for some volunteers to help out with the games.
Saturday Aug 9th from 5-9 p.m. at the American Legion is benefit for Ed and Linda Vobeda who are trying to rebuild their building after a disastrous fire. Both are very active in the Jaycees.
Steve Augustinack has produced new labels for everyone. Those who need them can pick them up when they get their badges. If they are NOT correct, just leave them on the sheet and make the corrections and a second printing will be forthcoming. Mary Marana was kind enough to send the tech committee and the newsletter committee an email thanking them for all their hard work on the website and the newsletter. A big thanks to Gus for all his work on the badges.
FAS: Would have been Hawk who called in but didn't make the meeting. Mary Aakus Olson did not call.

Greeter Schedule
Remember: Greeters (Be sure to take care of your duties that include meeting people at the door and getting the ticket money counted and divided with half going to Tami to give away and half to Diane for the social committee's budget). As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10 minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate. The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half goes to the Club Treasurer (Diane Rook Johnson) and half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets. Be there by 11:45 and call somebody if you can't. Call Patty Hartman.

Notes
Rumor Corner:
  • Rumor Corner:Our outgoing president Tami Webb is getting much too relaxed. She was talking about "nooners" today and was accused of irregular placement of hands in aphoto shoot with today's speaker. She also fined Mark Korte before the meeting ever began for not paying attention.
  • Diane Ulman has opened a new business called Nature Thyme Bed and Breakfast
  • Bill Mitsch has two corvettes and Edie is very jealous.
  • If Mary Marana or Karla Nelson call in they can win a sawbuck.
  • Kristine Well and Laura Beilke were BIR ticket winners at a recent event.
  • Luke Jordan needs to look up the definition of bejeebers so he can quit scaring them out of Edie when she is in the middle of an innocent bonding session with her daughter.
  • Todd Alguire has a new nickname--Turkey Todd.
  • Trixie Seymour has a very becoming new hairstyle.
The Rookie Committee intends to announce the location of the Rookie Party next week. This week we all had to solve puzzles that related to their hard work preparing for this gala event. The dog pound flunked (but someone gave them the hardest one on purpose). They were:
Head in the Sand
Getting it all Together
Balancing the Budget
Close encounters of the Third Kind
The Odds are against You
The Whole is greater than the Sum of its Parts.

The FAS Program was designed to encourage people to read the newsletter. Even those who attend the meeting can benefit from reviewing the announcements etc. If you find the letters FAS followed by your name, you must call the number provided and just leave a message that you called and attend the next meeting to collect your money. Simple--however 90% of the people never respond.
Photos Photos Everywhere New photos go up almost every week on our new MSN Community homepage. This community is for the club, easy to join and gives you the opportunity to add edit or delete any photos that are posted as well as leave messages for fellow Sertomans. It is a good way to thank someone for doing a good job or give them some positive feedback for a big event in their life. If you wish to view the current photographs or check out the new online directory go to:  http://communities.msn.com/BrainerdNoonSertoma/_whatsnew.msnw
