Brainerd Sertoma ClubWe welcomed a tag team with a great deal of valuable information today. The head architect from Widseth Smith and Nolting which is in charge of the plans for the new Forestview Middle School which is being constructed in Baxter joined with Superintendent Jerry Walseth to discuss the progress on the building. The first member to crawl in the ring and face the Sertomans was our own Kevin Donnay who is in charge of the plans for the magnificent new structure. Planning for this building goes back to the early 90's with the ground breaking being held on March 12, 2003 and completion scheduled for January of 2005. Plans are to move the 6th and 7th graders into the new building at that time including Mississippi Horizons students which will mean some 8th graders. The rest of the 8th grade will be moved into the building in the fall . All the previous year's fourth grade will be entering fifth grade at Forestview. The structure is set up with four 2 story wings to house 550 students at Noon Sertoma Meetingeach grade level-5-8. The concept of a school within a school will be maintained since each floor will be a different team. One end of the building is a large music area and the maintenance facilities. A huge cafetorium will seat 550 at tables and 1,000 in chairs. It is also stepped with a stage area so that it can be used for performances . The long narrow area in the middle is the entrance and media center. The activity complex is also a huge separate area so that it can be utilized more readily by the public. One of the things Superintendent Walseth stressed is the security of the building, a current public concern as well as the fact that the building will allow for improvement in eForestviewducation at all levels. It is also equipped with state of the art air quality equipment and air conditioning. The 180 acre facility which was purchased from Potlatch for $450,000 will also see an assortment of soccer, football, softball, and track fields. At the present moment the activity center has a roof. The wings are constructed and should be ready for roofing in a few weeks. Everything is on time and under budget. You can check on the progress of the building at www.brainerd.k12.mn.us .us or come to next week's meeting for another update on the remodeling plans that go with this new construction.

Golf TournamentThe Sertoma Golf Tournament was a huge success. Cheryal Hills thanked everyone from the Noon Sertoma participants. President Webb called Greg Straka and Pete Odell up and presented them with pens so that next year they could keep a more accurate score. She was very jealous because their team won the tournament with a score of 60.

Greeter Schedule
Remember: Greeters (Be sure to take care of your duties that include meeting people at the door and getting the ticket money counted and divided with half going to Tami to give away and half to Diane for the social committee's budget). As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10 minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate. The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half goes to the Club Treasurer (Diane Rook Johnson) and half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets. Be there by 11:45 and call somebody if you can't. Call Patty Hartman.

Rumor Corner:
  • Joe Schulte got fined for road rage.
  • Edie also fined Todd Alguire for his traveling billboard which she says is enough to inspire anyone to a little temper tantrum.
  • Robin Loftis has found a new product for making her toenails shine. It is actually intended for the dog in the family and is called Pawlish.
  • More talBrainerd Sertomak of the Nooner Club. It seems that Lowell Carlson has decided it should meet earlier so now it is the Nooner but Sooner Club. The Rookies didn't get the message. They decided to meet after lunch for a "Quicky". Our president is much too relaxed with only 17 days left in her administration.
  • Jeff Olson is on the spot. He collected his golf balls which he won several meetings ago from Tami but he had to promise to deliver one new member to the club before Tami leaves office.
  • Mike Boen got fined today for his sartorial splendor. This blue and white seersucker number was definitely a standout.

The FAS Program was designed to encourage people to read the newsletter. Even those who attend the meeting can benefit from reviewing the announcements etc. If you find the letters FAS followed by your name, you must call the number provided and just leave a message that you called and attend the next meeting to collect your money. Simple--however 90% of the people never respond.
Photos Photos Everywhere New photos go up almost every week on our new MSN Community homepage. This community is for the club, easy to join and gives you the opportunity to add edit or delete any photos that are posted as well as leave messages for fellow Sertomans. It is a good way to thank someone for doing a good job or give them some positive feedback for a big event in their life.
