Jon Ring, Regional Director of Timber Bay, had one very
important message for all of us at Sertoma today, "Mentoring is
something that happens every day; the most important thing we
can do is mentor kids." This mentoring in the form of a year
long program based on a contact camp for kids is the central
foundation of Timber Bay and The Light House. Often a few days
away from the everyday problems of growing up can result in a
new perspective with time to talk, time to make friends, and
time to think. This program has been in the Brainerd area since
1984 and targets at risk kids. About 60 kids attend camp and
over 300 are on their current contact list. The Camp is located
35 miles SE of Brainerd and is part of the Youth Investment
Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps teenagers
develop values and mature into happier productive adults through
purposeful friendships with the staff. The Light House is home
to weekly meetings and many efforts to build relationships with
kids in need including something called "Independent Living" for
students from 14 to 21 who are venturing out on their own.
Sponsorships are available and this non denominational church
based group focuses on effecting new attitudes and behavior as
needed in youth through a growing faith in Christ and/or by
supportive staff relationships. Questions and answers centered
around the number of kids involved (about 60 per week)and
funding. Church groups, local philanthropists and some grants
provide money and volunteers are needed and welcome. One of our
members has had first hand experience with the difference this
kind of mentoring can make in a young person's life. |

| Notes |
|
On a serious note--our prayers go out to Lori Abear
Anderson who is in the hospital. We also need to keep Lynn Franz
and her son Ryan in mind. Ryan has had an elevated heart beat and
may be in for some serious surgery in the next few days. |

UPCOMING MERGERS
In the wake of the Exxon/Mobil deal and the AOL/Time Warner
implode, I
wanted to make a few close friends aware of the next expected
mergers so you
can get in on the ground floor and make some BIG bucks. Watch for
these
consolidations in late 2002 and make yourself a bundle.1. Hale
Business Systems, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Fuller Brush and W.R.Grace
Co. will merge and become: Hale, Mary, Fuller, Grace.
2. Polygram Records, Warner Bros. and Zesta Crackers join forces
and
become: Polly, Warner Cracker.
3. 3M will merge with Goodyear and issue forth as: MMMGood.
4. Zippo Manufacturing, Audi Motor Car, Dofasco and Dakota Mining
will
merge to become, of course: ZipAudiDoDa.
5. Federal Express is expected to join its major competitor, UPS
and
become: FedUP
6. Fairchild Electronics and Honeywell Computers will become:
Fairwell Honeychild.
7. Grey Poupon and Docker Pants are expected to become: Poupon
Pants.
8. Knotts Berry Farm and the National Organization of Women will
become: Knott NOW!
That's all I have right now. Invest wisely................. |

Find a Sawbuck Corner: Call 829-7761 Dave Pundt
The FAS Program was designed to encourage people to read the newsletter. Even those who attend the meeting can benefit from reviewing the announcements etc. If you find the letters FAS followed by your name, you must call the number provided and just leave a message that you called and attend the next meeting to collect your money. Simple--however 90% of the people never respond. |

It is a good way to thank someone for doing a good job or give them some positive feedback for a big event in their life.
