Carole Paulson, a versatile lady who wears many hats, was our guest speaker at today's Sertoma meeting. Not only is Carole a great accountant, a Sertoma member, and a Toastmasters member, just to mention a few of her accomplishments, she is a graduate of the Brainerd Lakes Area Chambers of Commerce
"Leadership, the Lakes Area" course offered each year. She told us many interesting things about the course stressing how useful it was both in developing personal leadership skills and getting to know the Brainerd area better. The cost of the program is $750 for members and $1,050 for non-members, but included in that is an overnight stay for the initial two day retreat and lunches for monthly day-long meetings for the next 8 months. Carole explained that this format allowed time for more complete understanding of concepts as well as developing personal friendships.
Kathy Bittner Lee, a fellow attendee, commented, "I developed lifelong friendships in the course because of the sharing that is involved." Dan Meyer appreciate the time each session to work on personal development but also valued the chance to learn more about the community. The actual length of the course is 70 hours and it compares very favorably with the Blandin course. FAS 838-5190 Martin Elwell They are looking for new members to join this year's session, with the retreat scheduled for October 4-5 and you should contact Mary Gottsch for an application packet at 218-829-2838, ext. 117 or email her at mgottsch@explorebrainerdlakes.com . Thank you Carole for always being a willing and enthusiastic speaker.

Mike Howard and Camp Sertoma Club are looking for volunteers to work at Valley Fair.
16 people are required to make this project work. This could turn into a yearly event and could raise a lot of money for the Camp Sertoma operating fund. Right now they are
looking for 16-20 club members to work from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The jobs will be assigned when you get there and could include anything from selling
tickets to picking up garbage. The sheet will be going around the meetings. This could be a chance for a family outing with you working and the kids
paying and playing.

Sertoman of the Day
|
|
|
|
Laura Beilke is an administrative assistant at Mid Minnesota Builders. She moved to Baxter three years ago and listed one of her hobbies as joining clubs, that explains how Rita Johnson persuaded her to become a Sertoman. She also expressed a sincere admiration for the job the Pipe and Drape crew do at the Builder's show. She grew up in West St. Paul and attended St. Cloud University. She has been married for 18 years to Loren and they have two children. Loren travels as part of his business and when he went to Europe for three months, he got to take the family with him. Laura is definitely an outdoors enthusiast with emphasis on winter sports like skiing and anything associated with the water. She ended her speech by remarking,
"What I like about Sertoma is I can choose to make it a life long commitment. I may change jobs or communities but I can always remain a Sertoman."
