Father Glen Moe returned to give us an update Father Glen Moe returned to give us an update on how things are progressing with the new school which is being built in Haiti. Eventually it will be intended to graduate 1700 children from the school each year. Stage one construction will be started when the goal of $450,000 is reached. The first stage will include 16 rooms and will be two stories tall. This past week Father Moe has raised $300,000 towards the project. Ground breaking is schedule in February of 2002 with construction taking approximately one year. A question and answer period followed. Many were curious about teacher's pay. Teachers in Haiti earn from $100-150 American dollars per month. He also explained that concrete blocks for building are $5.00 each and every bag of cement cost $8.00. FAS 838-5190 Mike McFarland The next trip is scheduled in October. Tom Rosenberger is working on additional shoes to be delivered at that time and will keep us fellow Sertomans up-to-date on his progress.

Aug 11 Project Lead in Fargo. Note the change in date from last information given. This is a Saturday meeting. See Tami Webb (828-5000, 820-5623) to reserve your place. The club pays the expenses. Mike is still looking for forward thinking Sertomans to attend.
Aug 12 Zachary Denny Fund Raiser to be held at the Fort Steak House at Fort Ripley. Lynn Franz shared this with the club. The Northern Lakes Sertoma Club is sponsoring the event. Pipe and Drape, Crow Wing County Fair, talk to Mike Howard if you can help set up or take down.
Aug 17 Dinner at Mike Boen's for people who brought in new members and their guests as well as the new members. Sign up with Tami Webb. Those of us who want to attend but do not fall into that category should plan on paying $15 per person attending.
Aug 23 Rookie Party is set for a Thursday evening at Ernie's. Plans are very tentative but hopefully will include "cab" service for those who would prefer not to drive.
August 27 Mike Howard and Camp Sertoma Club are looking for volunteers to work at Valley Fair. 16 people are required to make this project work.  This could turn into a yearly event and could raise a lot of money for the Camp Sertoma operating fund. Right now they are looking for 16-20 club members to work from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The jobs will be assigned when you get there and could include anything from selling  tickets to picking up garbage. The sheet will be going around the meetings. This could be a chance for a family outing with you working and the kids paying and playing.

Sertoman of the Day

Damian BrumleyToday's honored Sertoman was another of our members who works in the booming cell phone business as a salesman for Cell One. Damian Brumley was born in Louisiana and likes to tell people he is from the deep South. In fact, it was so far out in the backwoods rural areas that people walked towards town to go hunting. His mosquitoes would eat our mosquitoes for lunch. He talked about his experiences with construction work and mentioned that he is single with one son. His hobby is photography when he has time. Prior to moving to Brainerd he worked in New York. According to Damian, he really has found a place in Brainerd, he feels really at home here, but could we all do something about our accents? Everyone should take a minute and stop by Cell One to meet him. Kim Hauglie is Damian's sponsor.

Notes
Dave Burggraff and Mike Boen each received the Ruby & Sapphire Life Patron Awards from the Sertoma Foundation for total contribution. Dave Burggraff and Mike Boen
