Sertomans can be proud of the efforts they have put into the United Way Drive each year. This year our own Reed Campbell and Jeff Olson are co-chairs. We had a very informative talk from Maria Prozinski and were privileged to be the first to see the national promotion video that features music by a local Duluth artist. Maria moved here three years ago from Nebraska and has been with the United Way 3 years. Maria started with a big round of compliments for Sertoma's past efforts,
"Sertoma's service club challenge has been so successful and continues to grow every year." Ten thousand dollars was raised last year to help reach the $381,000 goal which has been raised to $385,000 this year. The theme for this year is
"Imagine what happens when people care." Maria encouraged us to participate in the September 20th chili cook off. They are especially looking for brave souls to participate in the jalapeno pepper eating contest which is very popular with the spectators. The results of the pacesetter team are announced which includes Clough Stamping, Acrometal and Riverwood International this year. Your gift to the United way allows everyone to give back to the community through an organization that measures the impact of its contributions. They are involved in the process of building families to strengthen communities with such programs as Parent Monitoring, Kinship Partners and the Salvation Army.

Leadership, leadership,
leadership. Photo shows the members of the Brainerd Area Sertoma who attended the recent International Convention in Florida. The Camp Confidence Crew is the regular Sertoma Project Lead group that saw about 18 area Sertomans and 4 leaders participate in the skill building activities. Mike Boen is ready to start his presidential career with the help of these fine folks who also met recently to plan and set goals for next year.
Milo Johnson spent some time today saying farewell as President of Sertoma. He received a standing ovation from the members of the club who wished to express their appreciation for a great year. Milo said,
"The year has flown by and itıs been fun because you guys have made it fun." He continued by saying,
"We support each other, work together, and take our volunteer spirit into the community." Thanks Milo.
