Diane Rook-Johnson Diane Rook-Johnson did a wonderful presentation today off-the-cuff when we did not have a scheduled speaker. She and her husband Buford just returned from a trip to China that included three spots shown on the map below. Her comment was, "This is a fascinating trip, do not be afraid to go." Although little or no English is spoken in China, menus do have English translations and hotels give you printed Chinese cards that help you reach your destination and return to the hotel safely. She spent a great deal of time warning us to be careful of what we eat-things like duck tongues and feet, dried blood, pigs ears and 1,000 year old eggs are liable to turn up when you think you are getting something else. Her interpreter was very friendly and even made the comment, "Donš't steal anything, the government doesn't like competition." This is a developing nation with many skyscrapers and evidence of a growing economy in the major cities. The Communist government is most evident in the strict control of the media and news. Treason has become a very serious crime in Hong Kong since the takeover.

Sertoman of the Day
Dave Bergin - Insurance Placement Service Dave Bergin from Insurance Placement Service was our enthusiastic Sertoman of the Day. Dave recently moved here from the north-Bemidji where he grew up on a resort and attended BSU. After a preliminary career in construction he got back into sales because as he stated, "I love what I do, I love working with people, and sales is terrific" His hobbies include traveling the world to scuba dive and Judo as well as fishing and mountain biking. In fact he may have an opportunity to become a part of the next Olympic Team due to his connection with the coach and the fact that he is practicing with the current team. He is also not married. His involvement in Sertoma is
because he saw what organizations like the Lions and Sertoma have done to support the efforts of his Judo coach who is blind. His most embarrassing moment needs a bit of censoring so let's just say it was a cheek-to-cheek experience.
Note
The Pipe and Drape at Ruttger's went well with 11 people it took 30 minutes to do 30 booths. Mike reminded us that 10% of the Sertomans belong to the Swinging Sertomans and bring in 1/2 of our income. The rest of us need to help with Pipe and Drape to raise the other half.

Thank-you's were received from the Chuck and Lonnie Isaackson and Lynn and Jim Hanson for the condolences extended on their recent losses.

Jim Nelson in his thank you letter from Kamp Kimchee said, "Sertoma is a wonderful organization and is doing great things for the deaf and hard of hearing in our community."
The real Dave Clausen This is the real Dave Clausen. In case you didn't guess last week's fill in was our own beloved politician, Paul Koering.
Congratulations
