Program
Mackenzie Ross returned to Sertoma with a new tiara , a new title and a renewal of her intention to be Miss Minnesota. She competed for the title of Miss Northwest and won and will be competing at the state level where she was 2nd runner up as Miss Brainerd. Mackenzie shared a great deal of information about the Miss America Beauty Pageant. The part of the competition that distinguishes it is the inclusion of the talent contest. Miss America is service driven and is the largest contributor of college scholarships in the country with 65 million dollars awarded. This year they are partnering with the Children's Miracle Network that helps children with medical needs regardless of their ability to pay. On the local level each contestant must raise $100 for the charity and this becomes $250 at the next level. Mackenzie has the ambitious goal of raising $1.000. She remarked after visiting Gillette Hospital where all the funds are distributed, "It's a miracle to have a healthy baby." Our President Mark Korte also shared his recent experience with a premature grandbaby. Mackenzie is looking for contributions. She explained her platform which every contestant must develop. Hers is called Invest-Involve-Vote and she is working hard to promote her ideas both at the school level and with the largest group of non voters (18-24 year olds). Patriotism is high on her list of ideals. Her brother is in the Air Force and has served in Iraq. Mackenzie said, "We all need to get involved in democracy to preserve it."

Of Note
Welcome new members Mark Van Grinsven and Luke Schumer.

Dear Sertomans: Thank you so much for your generous contribution to Therapy Dog Connection. I am thrilled to inform you that since receiving you donation, our club and gotten a phone and number, created a website, printed business and visiting cards, set up classes at Northland Pet Lodge and set up International evaluations for dogs on April 26th. None of this would have been possible without your support. We are grateful for your generosity and eager to continue our work of lifting spirits one visit at a time

Election results Congratulations to Bill Goers who was elected third VP with Julia's resignation. Thanks also to Jeff Fitch and Cathe Picek who were the other equally worth candidates. It was a very close election. Sertoma has outstanding leadership at all levels of member.

Congratulations to Lowell Carlson and Bob Ehrich who were awarded their plaques for service under Julia's presidency today.

Business Notes
It is not too late to take advantage of the opportunity to advertise your business with brochures and trinkets. Drop your contribution off at Kelly's Services or Mid State Refrigeration.

Come one, come all to visit Jeff Marchand at Cub Foods in Brainerd. The newly remodeled store includes a salad bar, olive bar, Asian Hot Wing Bar and full service meat cases.

Rumor Corner
  • If you missed the hilarious birthday message that took the form of a for sale advertisement celebrating Poor Gary's wife's birthday, just ask to see it. He has it in his pocket or it was in the Tuesday edition of the Brainerd Dispatch.
  • There's a big feud developing in them thar hills--its the Ehrichs vs the Clausens. So far Bob and Andy are staying out but Dave and Sandra are fighting over Rookie of the Year, winning money, and Mackenzie's spare tiara. The Dog Pound thinks Dave would look best in it!
  • Mike Boen--2 coeds--2 feet of snow--2 bucks.
  • John Raboin cannot expect Mary to put a glass of water in her mailbox for his training runs if he fails to collect it.
  • Tina Dunlap is starting cheerleading school. She will provide pompoms.
  • Happy 30th birthday Vern--hope you get a porn star in a cake!!
  • Joyce Frid has had a couple of senior moments lately--unfortunately they involved business community meetings.
  • The garbage lady got fined because she laughed too much about the irony of the garbage lady and the queen (she and Mackenzie walked in together). Sounds like a Walt Disney movie to me!!
  • Well Bill won the VP job and immediately found out his duties including fetching soda for the Prez.
  • Anna Gorecky got called upon to adlib during the Great in O8 presentation and she showed off her picture of her boyfriend on her chest (Keith Urban).
