The
Winter Wonderland Report was presented by the committee at
today's meeting. The results of our efforts were very
positive. The approximately 36,000 people who viewed our
Christmas lights as well as sponsors and donations made the
overall picture look very good for next year and extremely
good for the year after even with conservative estimates. In
the bottom line of the figures, the first year broke even
and had almost $6,000 profit if the outstanding invoices are
collected. Next year the Club is committed to paying the
first of three installments on the loan from Brainerd
utilities but should be in a good position to start giving
money back to the community. Future projections indicate
that profits could range as high as $76,000 in the third
year. The presentation also included the new displays that
are planned for next year which was included in the original
quote from Midwest Displays. The presentation ended with an
invitation for all new members and old members to get
involved by joining a support committee.
Board Chairman Steve Mau also reported on the meeting which
was held last Tuesday. With drops and adds we are now at 174
total members. The decision on whether or not to make the
convention dues raise permanent will be discussed at the
next Board meeting. If you have input, you are urged to
attend. This is the time of year when members have to decide
whether or not to pay dues quarterly or in one lump sum. If
you are interested in changing your dues structure, contact
Darren Larson at 833-8507 or email him a
darren.larson@lakewoodbank.com. Contributions from the
Sponsorship Committee included $600 (Junior
Achievement),$300 (Youth as Resources),$1,500 (Music
Matters), $300 (Grad Blast), $300 (Special Olympics),$200
(Salvation Army) and $100 (Soap Box Derby). Program criteria
were discussed as well as the future of a musical group to
replace the Swinging Sertomans. |

Schedule |
| Remember:
As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.
Be there by 11:45 and call somebody to substitute for you if you
can't be there. |

love presents and Kathy Williams certainly has the resources to
bring presents for all since she is an advertising guru who
specializes in logo items and logo apparel. Kathy has worked in
many aspects of advertising but she has been with Newton
Advertising Specialties for 22 years, just lately full time. Her
home based business covers the Brainerd Lakes Area as well as
Alexandria and Northfield. The company has 800 representatives
and Kathy is proud to rank in the top 50 in the United States.
Everyone received a coin purse and a multi-use scraper
tool--thanks Kathy. Kathy shared her life with her husband
Steve, her children, her bonus son, and her grandchidlren. She
shared her horrendous experience recovering from the brink of
death and a major auto accident. Kathy was instrumental in
chartering the original Sertoma club in Northfield that admitted
women as members. She was very active there before her accident
and has kept up with her Sertoma activities and her penchant for
volunteering since she moved to Brainerd. Her first love was her
job as Foundation Trustee and VP, but she has retired from the
leadership roles. She loves crosswords, playing pool on her
newly restored antique 1895 pool table, travel, fishing and
bingo. Her trail of clouds as Miss Fridley in a swimsuit as well
as her skinny dipping experience were both certainly
embarrassing moments. Thanks Kathy for all you do for Sertoma. |

Nate Grotsky and his wife are parents of a new 8 1/2 # baby boy
named Brandon. He is so new that his picture isn't up on the
hospital web site yet. Congrats. Dale Bolt has a new grandson.
Paul Gropper and his wife are expecting a baby boy on Pam Sachs'
birthday in November, and the best news of all, Erika and Ty's
son Peter has a clean bill of health. The snow is melting and
spring is looking very good today according to our President. |

Hmm the treasurer who helped crunch the numbers was referred to
as Dewey Cheatum and How. There was almost a total snafu when
the computer with all the numbers in it died. Fortunately it was
just the power cord and a major hunt turned up a loaner to grab
the info.
-
Lori Rubin has a difficult job--she has to be the one shining
star that keeps our Winter Wonderland Committee from being
"ugly". Our president was kidding but no one is kidding when
they say the committee has done a great job!
-
Pam Bye got gagged today as sergeant--something about late board
breakfasts. However our Prez promised revenge next week.
-
The new musical group to replace the Swinging Sertomans is going
to be called the Swinging Outlaws, lead by Sheriff Ross, and
wearing orange jumpsuits. Sounds kinky guys--any hand cuffs
involved?
-
Charlie Bartels has opened up Agency Fun.
-
Welcome back Rod Converse--the snowbirds must have returned to
Capistrano whoops Minnesota.
-
Pam gets five lashings with an Asian Hotwing for mixing up the
Cub Food Stores in the business notes. If the woman is going to
whine every meeting for more notes she could at least get it
right!!
-
Welcome back to Sertoma Tim Volkmuth--hope you are planning on
rejoining the group.
