DeAnn Barry, one of our own Sertoma members, was slated to speak
on the Senior Center Activities today but was aced out by a
presentation delayed from last week on the Convention. She did
bring some wonderful Senior Center donuts to share and hopes
everyone will remember until next week how good they were. Rory
Coit began the Convention push with an announcement of the Food
Drive. The St. Cloud chapter is asking each person who attends the
convention to bring a non-perishable food item. Rory would like
everyone to participate by bringing an item to next week's
meeting. We not only want to be the largest group in attendance
but we also want to contribute the most food for the drive. Laura
Beilke got up and lead the group of eight who presented excellent
reasons for attending the convention. It is not too late to decide
to go. |

| Announcements |
| Interactive Calendar is up and running.
Everyone can contribute--it allows you to post items. Please
keep them in the community service range however. For instance
John Raboin invited us all to participate in the First Annual
May Day Festival on May 1st at Dave's Pizza, billed as a
chance to eat and drink around the world. It will feature 35
different beers and some international pizzas. Tickets are $20
with a coupon (see John) or $25 at the door and the profits
will go to promote curling. Diane Rook Johnson announced the
Spring Evening at the ARB which is also a fund raiser. It is
sponsored by the Brainerd Lakes Sunrise Rotary Club and
features and Progressive Picnic. You will walk the trails and
enjoy a different course at the different destinations. Cost
is $5 in advance and $7.50 at the door. Both of these events
are on the interactive calendar along with a slue of other
information--be there or be square! |
| Rick Besmehn, Mike Boen and Bonnie Franke are
organizing a fun day at Vacationland on June 2nd to
raise money for both the Crisis Line and the Burggraff family.
They are looking for volunteers and prizes. Contact Bonnie if
you can help.

| Wanted flag captains and flag salesmen--Beth
Burnard could really use a little help. The loss of the Nisswa
Legion has left us with some flags to sell. |
| Thursday, May 10th 5 p.m. Vacationland Fun
Park is the start point for the spring Ditch Pick. Poor
Gary will be cooking and fish is on the menu. Come as soon as
you can, if the ditches are all cleaned enjoy the social
opportunity. |
| Wanted three captains for flag days
this year--see Beth Burnard. Beth has already put the flag
days on the interactive calendar. Anyone can put items on the
calendar--we just suggest that they be of interest to all
Sertomans. We would like to get more people aware of this
great tool so it is put to optimum use. |
| May 3-5 - Great Plains
Regional Convention in St. Cloud. Make plans to attend--we
will have a hospitality booth encouraging people to attend our
convention the next year. |

| Greeter
Schedule |
| Remember:
As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.
Be there by 11:45 and call somebody to substitute for you if you
can't be there. |

| Sertoman of the Day |
Congratulations
to a very new member who was willing to stand up and be counted
today. Anna Gorecky gave a very funny and informative Sertoman of
the Day speech at the last moment. Anna is a young lady who will
add a great deal to our Sertoma group. She is from the Aitkin area
and she is manager of the local Snapfitness chain that will soon
include a large facility in Aitkin and another location in the
Baxter area. They are presently located on South 6th near the YMCA
and feature fast conventinent and affordable fitness options for
everyone. The facility is open 24 hours a day with members allowed
access through key cards. They have been open since last June.
Mary Marana brought Anna into the club and she remarked, "I didn't
have to sit with her today." Although she was trying to explain
how everyone has welcomed her, Mary got the business from the
hecklers in the crowd. When Anna explained that she is presently
working on her qualifications to be a personal trainer, the whole
Dogpound offered to help her. She told a very amusing "I forgot my
bloomers in the school play" story and also explained how to hit
yourself in the head with a water bottle in front of a thousands
of people. She was a member of the dance team in high school and
now lists her passion as coaching that same team. She joined
Sertoma to meet people from the Brainerd area. |

Of
Note |
|
We received a very nice card from Lynn Specu who is very grateful
for our help with her new hearing aid. She remarked, "At the age
of 42, I can finally hear details sounds like cats playing in the
other room, the mallards taking off from the pond, and my husband
talking to the dog downstairs." She has been wearing her hearing
aid since the age of 5. |

-
It is amazing how many of the gentlemen in Sertoma found a
moment to speak with our Sertoman of the Day.
-
Karen Owen and Karla Nelson now have something in common, a
reputation for dancing on tables. Thanks for sharing with us
Pres.
-
Uncle Art's Honest Credit cards earned him a fine. Then his
willingness to be the substitute in the women's lock in earned
him another one.
-
Bill Goers new motto is "Collecting fines $2 at a time. And yes
the score still is Bill 0 Scotty 2.
-
Welcome back Reed Campbell.
-
Trouble with Trebils (anybody an old Trekkie) We were totally
lacking in greeters today.
-
Laura Beilke is a cart crasher at Walmart (Rick Besmehn wants to
know if she damaged her car when she hit all those carts) and
Mary Marana is in trouble for being a tattle-tale.
-
Pam Bye went to a drinking party on Wednesday morning even.
-
Dick Enrico, also known as Greg Straka, got an interesting fine
today--for faking an interest in fitness.
-
Tami Webb paid a happy fine today so she could invite
Administrative Assistants to Friday's party at the Office Shop
with Reps and Treats from 11-2.
-
George Moore needs an able bodied assistant who can put his new
charcoal grill together. He has what I call "line charisma" and
he calls Murphy's Law. If anyone could get a new grill that came
with instructions missing it would be him or me.
