Nancy
Cross from Community Action was on a threefold mission when she
joined the Brainerd Noon Sertoma Club for lunch today. She, of
course, came to share the latest update on the 4th of July
Celebration. As she remarked, "The 4th of July is always tomorrow
in my life." She went on to explain how our celebration is unique
in the opportunities it provides for free family fun. She talked
about the "local" members of the nationally known band "October
Road" that is scheduled for the celebration that evening at Don
Adamson Field. The festivities will be opened on June 24th and
25th with something new, the Brainerd Lakes Air Show at the
airport. Another new activity will be the July 3rd Blue Thunder
Supports Our Troops game at Mills Field with special Army
Olympics. Then she invited us all to stop by the Commerce and
Industry Show Community Action booth next weekend and purchase a
tied dyed t shirt for $15, a coffee mug for $8 or an insulated bag
for $7 to help support the activities which are all paid for
through fund raising. Finally, she talked about a project that
involved our sister city of Long Beach, Mississippi, and five high
school kids who decided to see that their counterparts had their
senior prom. The activity had been canceled because of the
hurricane's aftermath. These students have been collecting dresses
and dressy outfits for the boys and fundraising to help pay
expenses. They are also traveling to Long Beach to attend school
and help out with the prom. They were $1500 short in costs for the
band and food Nancy left Sertoma today with $428.86 collected from
the group including Tom Steiger's blue ticket winnings. |

Schedule |
|
| Remember:
As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.
Be there by 11:45 and call somebody to substitute for you if you
can't be there. |

Pam
Bye was awake when her picture was taken for this week's
newsletter. Pam is a long time member of Sertoma and the owner
along with her husband Randy of Timbermist and the Chapparal
Bunkhouse. Their business did include a restaurant and bar until
their recent fire. She encouraged us all to come to TimberMist for
their Easter Brunch so that we could see first hand their
expertise at cooking and catering. Pam joined Sertoma in 1994
because Mary Marana insisted that she join. Actually, it was
business that first brought Pam to the club but she didn't realize
she was joining a family. Her most embarrassing moment involved
trying to tease a snowbird about why she left her husband at home
and being mortified to learn that he had passed away. She says she
has lots of embarrassing Sertoma moments but will leave them to
your imagination or your next conversation with Mary Marana. Her
family includes a boy and a girl and her hobbies center around
family actiities, travel and relaxing when they have a moment from
their busy schedule. She has come a long way from her roots as a
farm girl from Milaca. |

- Gary Walters is specializing in County Noise.
- Charlie Bartles continues to lead us in rousing invocations
and now he is into collecting doggy do do as his retirement job.
- Quote from our President "I am not French." Someone also got
a fine for belittling our President today. That was after the
meeting mysteriously started without him.
- Lester paid a happy fine today. Lynn's medical problems have
turned out not to be cancer and he has a third great grandchild.
- Pam wants to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the
