Roy
Miller stood before us today to announce several new and
exciting events that are occurring as a result of the decision
to make the Brainerd Daily Dispatch a morning paper starting
April 19th. The most important changes besides the fact that the
paper will be delivered by 5:30 a.m. each morning will be the
organization including a bold new look for the front page and a
name change. The paper will simply be called the Brainerd
Dispatch and its new flag will feature green trees and water to
reflect the Brainerd Lakes Area. Obituaries are moving to page
four, the Tempo section will be titled entertainment and the
editorial page will become commentaries. Pooch suggested that
the editorial pages could very well be the most entertaining
thing in the paper. He sat up front so that he could be Roy’s
chief heckler and succeeded admirably at the job with much help
from the Dog Pound. As an advocate of the time change Roy
commented, “The one thing that scares me is how late the snow
plows go out!” This of course included an exchange with our own
MNDot fellow, Bob Nibbe. Roy also made a rather significant
comment when discussing the width change during the question and
answer period. “The cost of newsprint continues to rise and the
size continues to narrow because of the cost factor,” said Roy.
He also went on to tell us that they had used Missota paper and
were very happy with the product and wished they could obtain
more .
He expressed regret that the change would mean the end of the
youth carrier program. Roy began his presentation by encouraging
everyone to become an advocate for “Tylenol Journalism”. He
explained that the best thing a company or organization can do
when faced with a controversy is to handle it the way the
Tylenol Corporation did when their product was the subject of
tampering a few years ago. Instead of hiding the problem, they
faced it and involved the media and it soon became a problem
solved instead of a problem hidden. Best wishes for good results
in your new program Roy Miller and the Brainerd Dispatch! |

Sertoman of the Day
|
“Vegetable
Bob” was today’s honored Sertoman. Bob Ehrich was a charter
member of the Sertoma Club and he has been an integral part of
the organization for 26 years. His sponsor was Rod Converse who
was the Brainerd Noon Sertoma’s first president and who also is
still a member. Bob has held every office, some of them more
than once, and served at the Regional and International levels
also. My first memory of him is at the Mariucci Fiesta where he
and his wife Lorraine who have been married 44 years are in
charge of the deep fried goodies, hence the nickname. He has two
daughters. Twila just presented him with a new grandbaby and our
own Sandra is expecting her first. Both Bob and Sandra are part
of Ehrich Appraisals of Baxter. Before that Bob worked for the
Department of Transportation. Bob Ehrich certainly represents
the ideal Sertoman and should be a role model for all new
members. Thanks for many years of hard work and dedication to
this club. |

Of Note: |
|
|
|
We have several newly inducted members but we will present you
with the complete list of names and all the new faces next week. |
|
|
|
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you to all the Sertomans who showed up
to help at the Pipe and Drape Take Down on Sunday. Julia wants you
all to know she loves you. If Joe Vreeland or Susan Beck is
reading this and would like to collect their ten dollars they just
need to call and attend! |

Rumors Corner: |
- Sadly Dennis Renowski is returned his silver engraved gravy
boat that he purchased from the bridal registry—the Raboin and
Miller engagement is off and Roy is looking for a new attorney.
- Congratulations to Mark the Marketeer Engstrand on his
wardrobe improvements, unfortunately in this club you get fined
if you do and fined if you don't wear the infamous red tie.
- Jeff Kozitza paid dearly for showing off his legs on this
fine spring day and Gary Loge paid for showing off a lot
more—something about stripping?
- It was nice of Joe Schultes to pay Bob Ehrich’s hugging
fine.
- Sandra Bonde is going to have a difficult time getting
people to speak as Sertoman of the Day which is abbreviated SOD
if Lynn continues to abbreviate it as SOW.

The FAS Program was designed to encourage people to read the
newsletter. Even those who attend the meeting can benefit from
reviewing the announcements etc. If you find the letters FAS
followed by your name, you must call the number provided and just
leave a message that you called and attend the next meeting to
collect your money. Simple--however 90% of the people never
respond.

Photos Photos Everywhere New photos go up almost every week on our
new MSN Community homepage. This community is for the club, easy
to join and gives you the opportunity to add edit or delete any
photos that are posted as well as leave messages for fellow
Sertomans. It is a good way to thank someone for doing a good job
or give them some positive feedback for a big event in their life.
