Pat Altrichter Pat Altrichter who is an employee of the Brainerd School District visited with Sertomans in her capacity as an advocate for The Crossing Arts Alliance. This group arose out of a need expressed at the Blandin Leadership training and has been in existence for about a year and already has 130 members. Sertoma is invited to join either as a club or individually. Their four major goals include as Pat said, "Working hard to enhance the arts and explore the needs for facilities in this area." The second aim is to support and nurture the arts themselves. Thirdly they are encouraging lifelong participation in art empowering everyone to enjoy it. Finally, the group serves as a networking place or clearing house for arts events. Speaking of which, Pat's other purpose was to invite the group to participate in their first annual community celebration. Called "Crossing Paths" it will take place on May 5 in over 50 different locations. People interested are encouraged to grab a map and visit as many of the sites as they can between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. The activities involve 7 different communities and will have their base at Central Lakes College. Pat included the following comments about Sertoma, "The guest editorial that Mike Boen wrote for Sertoma week was wonderful." She went on to thank the group again for all their contributions to the school district especially the phonic ears program. FAS 829-7761 Bob Ehrich. Pat herself was complimented by Bonnie Franke, a fellow Blandin Leadership participant,"Pat deserves to be commended for her hard work and her motivation to stay involved."

Sertoman of the Day

Jeff BirksDoes this look like a ski bum to you? Our Sertoman of the Day, Jeff Birks , who hails from Colorado admitted that he spent much of his earlier life on the slopes. He had many enviable and interesting jobs ranging from snow maker to snowmobile guide. He admits to being addicted to mountains but only had nice things to say about his move to Minnesota with his wife Melissa. She is about to add a real baby to their 3 dog family, works at Maddens, and wanted to be nearer her mother. Jeff is employed at Specials Delivery and has spent the last several years in various sales jobs. His hobbies include anything outdoors. He didn't have good things to say about our bugs however and would not fess up to his most embarrassing moment. He called Sertoma a "wonderful, welcoming organization." His sponsor was Dave Clausen. is sponsor. His motive for joining the club was to meet new people.

Note
Interested in being part of this year's Rookie Party Committee-call Jen Carver at 825-3846 (H), 825-7803 (W) or write her at jkcarver@yahoo.com.
Dave Burgraff is still looking for $100 contributions to Fund a Fellow for Hopper--must have money in before he leaves for convention.

Mike Howard gave everyone a big thank-you for all the help with Pipe and Drape. In return Rory Coit made mention of the great presentation that Mike did at the Mid Minnesota Builders meeting. Great job Mike.
Note: We need to be a little more courteous when people are speaking, very noisy today--a concerned Sertoman.
See these handy dandy candy machines. They are a great way for your company to make money for Camp Confidence. Mary Marana has forms so that individual businesses can sign up to have the machines at their offices and/or places of businesses. Call Mary if you need a form.
New Webshot Photos
A great group of people got together last week to celebrate the birth of a new club, The Northern Lakes Sertoma Club in Pequot Lakes. Many members of the Noon Club, Camp Sertoma, and the Morning Club were in attendance along with some important people from the Great Plains Region. Mike Boen did a splendid job of organizing and hosting the event. If you wish to see the photos go to http://community.webshots.com/album/12915810bVdkjumsBy
The Swinging Sertomans played to an enthusiastic crowd who gave them a standing ovation in Staples on Friday, April 20th. The concert was a benefit for the Centennial Auditorium and was well attended. If you have never seen the Swinging Sertomans perform, or even if you have, you will want to see the photos. You have two choices, go to the album at http://community.webshots.com/album/12969619LieVPYAdHM or see the video at a place called PhotoJam. The second choice animates the pictures and includes music but is slow to download. You may also have to upgrade your Shockwave (it is free), so you need time to view the photos this way at http://www.shockwave.com/rd/photojam/?2010896/988076265442_1
