Because many members are going to the Regional Convention in Sioux Falls (see Tami Webb to sign up and pay your measly $35-the club pays the rest), there will be
No Weekly Meeting. Instead on Monday May 1, the ditch pick will include a great supper and a short meeting.

Shave Big Mike. Everyone received their razors in the latest move to collect fines or promote new members. Anyone who doesn't want to pay the sergeants for NOT having their razor with them for the next month needs to bring in one prospective member. Let's give Mike back ALL of his razors. |

Steve Rose is one of our newest members and an architect with Norson. He
has been married to his wife Charlotte for 17 years and has three
children-Travis, Chelsey and Tyler. He grew up in Fargo, moved to Colorado
Springs and then has been in Brainerd since 1997. He enjoys auto racing to
the point where he had his own car before moving here. To get more involved
in family outings he gave up racing and tries to be happy boating instead.
He is active with the Boy Scouts in Baxter. He expressed his dream for the
future very well when he said, "I want to grow old watching my children grow
up and become responsible parents and good citizens." Mark Korte was his
sponsor. His motive for joining the club was to meet new people.

The program for today's Sertoma was basically just expanded announcements
due to the election. The three candidates were: Bob Nibbe, Melody Banks
and Rory Coit. Even though Melody gave her speech "in absentia" due to
illness all three presentations were excellent. Mike Boen remarked,
"It is just too bad that we can't have three Third V.P's." Winner was Rory Coit.
Thanks to Bob and Melody for being candidates

Another special guest along with Cami Sundlie, President of the Northern
Lakes Club, was Burt Knandel from the Sunrise Sertoma Club. Burt sent around
a sign up sheet for their upcoming flower sale. It is not too late to order
flowers if you call Burt at 829-1501. |

Tom Rosenberger has returned from Haiti and took a moment to address the club.
"We the team who went to Haiti, wish to than Sertoma and the individual Sertomans who so generously
provided the resources that allowed us to take 8 duffle bags full of tennis shoes to Haiti," said Tom.
He went on to talk about the joy and delight the shoes brought to those who received them. His story of being surrounded by thankful appreciative kids who were singing and shouting was very touching. His team plans on returning next January or February to star the school building project and they want to take many more shoes with them. FAS 829-7761 Bonnie Cumberland. Thanks to Sertoma from Tom Johnson and Steve Northway also.

Dave Burggraff spent some time reminding us of what it means to be a
"fellow" in Sertoma. He has made special arrangements with the Foundation to allow Brainerd Sertomans to qualify for this prestigious award which involves donating $100 to the Foundation by earmarking their pledge or funds for the Happajoki Memorial Fund. Our group has raised all but $8,000 of the original pledge to start the fund which hopefully will grow enough to keep Camp Sertoma for the deaf and hard of hearing funded in perpetuity. Get your checks or pledges to Dave before the Convention in Sioux Falls to take advantage of this special offer. He also took this opportunity to tell the new members about the legacy Hopper left to the Brainerd Noon Club. FAS 829-7761 George Moore.

Some issues have been raised concerning the Sertoma Sunshine efforts. As a
group we do want to acknowledge the good things that happen to the people in
our club and provide moral support when things are not so sunny. Mary
Marana, as one of the chaplains, has agree to be the coordinator of our
efforts. Her numbers are as follows; 828-4539 or
829-2997. Please contact her if you feel a card or flowers are appropriate. |

You may notice a bit of a blush on Karen Owen's face. This picture was snapped right after the Club sang her a heartfelt Happy
Birthday. Karen was celebrating that magical mystical 50th. We would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks for her dedication to Sertoma. |
|
Congratulations to an active member who has taken just two years to get his
Centurion Award. Good job Jim Potvin who is pictured with President Mike
Boen. |

Inductees who met with Milo Johnson at the Sawmill Inn on Tuesday to become
official members are: Steven Christenson, Steven Rose, Kevin Goedker, Rita
Johnson, Jeff Birks, Joelle Schmidt, Jenny Baker, Todd Bynark, Robert
Thielen, and Brian Lehman. The group includes many of their sponsors.
