| Selling raffle tickets and various other activities are
the foundation of Service Club fund raising activities. It is a great
source of funds, but it is sometime difficult to get Members
involved.
In 1988, the Brainerd Area Sertoma Club realized that there was a
need for the rental of exhibition booth pipe and drape material. With
an initial investment of $20,000, the Club purchased sufficient
material to set up an exhibition area with 100 booths. A trailer
to transport and store the material was included in the initial
investment.
The large Brainerd Area resorts provided a terrific market for this
fund raiser. In the spring and fall, the resorts host many
conferences and conventions that were very willing to rent the pipe
and drape.
The Pipe and Drape rental is a major source of funds that are
contributed to local and regional projects. In addition to the money
that is generated, we have found that this project provides for a
social atmosphere that encourages new friendships and strengthens the
Club, in general.
One of the first uses of the Pipe and Drape was at the 1988 Great
Plains Sertoma Convention. It continues to be our major fund
raising source as illustrated by the following scheduled Pipe and
Drape events:
